... pictures over the traffic or openly complaining about the driver's high speeds. Mesmerized by the abundant colors, my eyes just danced along the rolling hills of the horizon, tracing every mountain top along our journey.

The coastline of Jobos Beach came into view just after ten. Joining us in the parking lot were fresh groups of tourists with fanny packs and cameras strung about them. No time was wasted climbing ...

A day in Old San Juan

... San Juan is about 3.5 km (Yeah! It's 'km'. The distance is posted in km while the speed limit is posted in mile/hr) from the main San Juan city. Braving the bumper-to-bumper traffic on all entry ways to Old San Juan we reached there in late morning. We decided to do the city on foot for a few reasons. First of all, it was about a mile at its longest part; secondly there was heavy traffic and thirdly we didn't ...

Not So Simple A Day

... and do what they needed to do. It was a really pretty plaza with the obligatory fountain and town hall across the road which had a clock tower that played the Puertorican and American National Anthems every couple of hours. We were also treated to the comedic delights of some local students who performed all around the cafe in the plaza. Ever been told a joke and just don't get it? Well it was like that for us with everyone around us laughing and us just sitting ...

Paradise Found

... thought was "we have definitely NOT been duped", this is amazing. Forget the other place called Gilligan's island, this truly was like Gilligan's island. White sand beach, coconut palms and a shallow reef lined lagoon with crystal clear blue water at 29 degrees celsius. God could not have made a more perfect place! As we were unfortunately only going to be able to stay one day due to weather we decided to wake the rest of crew who had done most of the night watch as ...

El Yunque Rain Forest & Luquilo Beach

... forest had much to offer if you love exploring nature. We saw the Coqui, a species of a really green frog, which derives its name from its "Ko-Kee"-singing from sundown thru the night till dawn during the monsoon-very popular with the locals. Various different species of the Coqui are found in this island some of which are also yellow & green in color. Then there was the gorgeous Puerto Rican parrot, its feathers had tints of ...

... iguanas and arrogant chatty birds passing..and my panic at the first night dragging my tent back and forward seemed pointless... the 20 kilos on my back feels natural and im heading my steps towards port.. not actually knowing where or how far it is...and if im lucky a 'publico' will pick me up... step by step im getting closer..hitching isn't probably wise as most of the drivers seem to be suspicious guys or frightened tourists so i'll just keep ...

Rincon Baby!

The promised land. World-class board-breaking waves of Tres Palmas and Domes skirted by the crystal clear waters of Desecheo Island. House right on the beach with a swimming pool. Dive Shop, Taino Divers, in Black Eagle Marina. Banana Dang and the Rum Shack up in Puntas. Life is SWEET!

Caribbean

All flights arrive to BQN at extremely inconvenient times 4am! During my time in Rincon I made the trip thrice. Call Carlos in Rincon. He is dependable, friendly, speaks fluent English, is a Rincon local, has a huge van for your surf boards and is an all around good guy.

How to Set Yourself Alight Underwater!

... light up! When you jump in the water at night (less moonlight the better) there is an amazing electric radiance effect - I cannot describe just how bright the light was but it was truly magical - yet another once in a lifetime experience. Well, that's not entirely true, I experienced a similar thing in Thailand but it wasn't nearly as bright or as prolific as this. The other fascinating thing we noticed as ...
