The compare arrived. A jolly rotund chap whose sole job was to egg them on to greater feats; keep order; explain the games and award points. Seems simple enough don’t you think? So grabbing the microphone called for order from the four teams which he finally got. And then ordered a round of beers to be drunk before the games were to start. Naturally the volume was turned up so everyone could hear him speak, and the first round was a relay race ...
... and two naked light bulbs hanging from the ceiling. This really didn’t give enough light for what was going to go on. A few chairs and a sofa big enough for four people to squash together. The rest sat on what used to be white mats on the ********crete floor. Joss sticks were smouldering giving that intense Indian aroma. And finally the people.... seeming to be from all walks of life. Rasta’s with their long hair..... Alternative lifestyle ...
... over the moon... and then it begins to rain..... and visibility becomes less and less. So we had to proceed very slowly. Not only because of the weather conditions, but also because the buoy markers which should have flashing lights..... well, all I can say is that many of the lights decided either not to flash, or come on at all. And hitting one of these things in the dark can be quite catastrophic to say the least. But make it we did and were really pleased to be back in one ...
... as far as we were concerned. Had the welcoming
committee all organised; the herrings and cheeses all ordered, but.... the powers that be must have forgotten to tell the drivers of the cavalcade about what she actually wanted to do. So in the blink of an eye, as we say over here, "here she comes....," and that was it...... “there she goes,” they forgot to stop here!
