Spent the day in Aberdeen today, a very wet Scottish day but warm, so not much outdoor exploring. Unfortunately Balmoral Castle was closed so could not visit nor play a round of golf at St Andrews!! Aberdeen is a very floral town with baskets of flowers everywhere. The main street has pennants of all countries strung from one side of the road to the other.

Typical Scottish weather I guess... And we don't mind at all. We're not holding back because of it. A pathway leads us ...

... and owls. It was a brilliant display. Before now, I hadn't been terribly interested in people who kept birds of prey, but this man was so passionate about his craft and gave us several statistics about the birds, their speed, eye sight and reflexes and really how the kind of hunting these birds are trained to do is so much more sustainable than the hunting that is carried out by people with rifles, which is still a very common sport in ...

... retirement. She may still get the occasional short trip but her globe trotting days are over. We couldn't risk her breaking down completely and having to be abandoned in some strange foreign land as happened to poor Old Oily Red.

New Red is settling in to his new home in the loft.

Now we are back in Aberdeen Charlie has disappeared. But no doubt he will reappear, as he always does, the next time we go away.
