... by Lake Michigan on the other side to the one we came on. We stopped briefly at a rest stop and had a snack of popcorn. We had had breakfast at hotel but not a lot. We carried on until about 1.30pm when we stopped at a roadside cafe called Seasons Cafe. It was busy so obviously popular which is always a good omen. They did pasties. 5/17 Monday

After a couple of flights - one being on the new 787 Dreamliner, and a 45 minute drive- we arrived at the Beach Harbor resort.

... here. There are numerous orchards. We stopped at one today and sampled cherry everything. From cherry fudge to cherry salsa. Oh, we did leave with fresh cherry donuts in hand. Don't want to leave out that Wisconsin is the frozen custard capital in the US. We may have to roll ourselves home in 2 months. (But loving every minute of it) Life is ...

Sounds suitably creepy for the season, doesn't it? I finally learned how Door County got it's name. Door County is a peninsula that juts up into Lake Michigan and creates, on its west side, Green Bay (of Packers fame). Off the tip of Door county is an island, Washington Island. Apparently the waters between the peninsula and the island are particularly treacherous and home to many a shipwreck. This earned it the moniker 'port des mortes', or Death's Door, ...
