... he filled for us from his wine cask. The people are really friendly and we are enjoying the small town ambiance. We went up 150 steps to town and then back down to store our food. This was only a small phase of our step climbing for the day. After lunch we decided to hit the beach, which was 350 steps down. There wasn't much of a beach and they charged 10 euros for a chair so we took a quick dip and headed back up ... Yikes! ...

A walk up to the Castle above Maiori. A major defense point for the town. It had two watchtowers at the points of the bay, walled areas within the town and the castle above. The best protected city in the area, repelled pirates and the mighty Pisans. When under attack, the townspeople would hunker down at the castle, which could hold a battalion of soldiers.
