... had
seen quite a lot of greenery but later when asking people they said it had rained
a lot for this time of year but hadn’t really thought things were THAT green.
Later I thought what we probably saw were olive trees and cactuses, which are
abundant but don’t need a heap of water. Case solved, mission complete.
We went to meet
the sign with our riad’s name on it, and the man holding the sign, and got a
lift to our accommodation. Very ...
From the fun flats of Marrakech...we made our way to the High Atlas mountains for well...mountains of magnificent hiking and views.
Jebel Toubkal stands at 4200m above sea level and at that is the highest most point in northern Africa and also a bit of a mission! We made it up the mighty mountain in a few days and did some sleeping, sun burning and Scrabble in there as well. An absolutely incredible adventure!
Back down and all set to embark on a road trip to Fez!

After immense Irish experiences and an interesting and equally incredible adventure in Italy i arrived in Morocco having met both big brother Jage and eventually Stewart in Milan...
We made our way to the mad, mixed and amazing Marrakech with a few friends we found along the way and ended up in the midst of Ramadan at a funky guesthouse hidden away in the ...
... motorcycles: old ones, torn seats with foam spilling out, nothing over 50cc. And the toddler is standing on the frame, leaning forward with hands on the speedometer, wife in full dress behind the driver (in a long ground level dark outergear called a jallabah). The street is pure theatre: scooters like this going WAY to fast, inches from unconcerned pedestrians; sand-brown cabs tooting their way through it all; people ...
Marrakesh, Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Morocco thedicksons... As soon as we sat down there was bread put in front of us, with plates of Moroccan salad, spicy tomato paste and olives on the side. I ordered some fried aubergines (awesome), and vegetable tagine... which turned out to be a stew of some indiscernible vegetables... mainly yams and carrots, possibly. With each seperate dish it was ...
Marrakech, Morocco sianeth... ask if you may take a picture, the answer is almost certainly no. If you get a yes, it is because you've asked if they'd mind. If you ask why, they will tell you, it is against their religion. This is hard to argue against. However, one thing would easily change everything: Lots of people will ask for money if you want to take a picture. Maybe I just misunderstood, did they say it's the prophet or the profit that matters?

... some great food though we turned down cold rice with our mixed salads. (Rice in the UK has to be served at over 80F for food hygiene regulations to limit food poisoning. It's generally not a good idea to eat cold rice unless you've prepared it yourself.) The men of the stall put on quite a stall. Being an enthusiastic and quite sociable family, we happily joined in and they were quite sad to see us go at the end of the evening.
Marrakech, Morocco doodlebug... twice by supposed henna artists. The first one, who claimed he was an artist, owned a shop and invited us to have mint tea with him. After accepting and spending the next 10 minutes posing for photos with him he offered to create a beautiful henna tattoo for roise on her hand (for a price-but he was an arist wasn't he?) which turned out to be this gross brown splodge that looked more like someone had **** on her hand than anything else. But did she learn? Because several days ...
