... the wild coastline and the brown sea. In Livorno we settled back into our campsite and waited for the weather to clear. By late afternoon we were able to venture out on the bikes to assess the damage to the coastline here. There was lots of debris washed up on the shore,.. very different beaches to those of a few days ago. Thursday saw a late start,.. clear blue skies,.. and bloody hot,.. again! A bike ride and a quiet lunch at one of the many seaside ...

The weather was against us pretty much all day, as we woke to pouring rain forcing us to drag everything inside and practically take over the sites shower block! We left several hours later with just croissants and pain au chocolats in our stomach. The climb up to the col was a relentless 17.5km at 7%, so blood ...

It's been a wet start and finish to our first wedding anniversary today. Best intentions for an early start we're delayed by heavy rain this morning, but we made the first 50km before lunch in great time and had a big lunch outside the supermarket in Saint Michel de Maurienne. We then climbed Col du Telegraphe and the rain started again just as we arrived into camp in Valoire. Currently tucked in our tent, enjoying looking through the photos so far while the rain continues ...

... After the breakaway you get all their support cars. Then behind the pack, you get more support cars. But if you are in between the two groups, you have to fight your way rough the support cars too! We tried to find frogs legs for dinner but failed. One of the few places I have seen them was in a Chinese place in Geneva where you could get them salt and pepper style! Alas, it wasn't france, so that was not on the menu that ...
