... evening we had a super night with Cousin Dan and Sheila in their very nice village of Scotch Corner (I think a population of 350). After very sad good byes we are now back in Chamonix. It's always hard leaving Aunty Chris and Neville. Interesting for us, Chamonix felt like "coming home". We were lucky to pre-arrange our furnished apartment well before we left NZ, so it had the rudimentaries of kitchen ware when we arrived. A decent shopping expedition to Ikea in Geneva resolved most of the remaining implements issues, and real cooking soon commenced in earnestAnyone who saw our kitchen in Auckland will know that a lot of thought and effort ...

        Food Markets!

... local food (and some from Northern Italy) is offered regardless of the weather. It’s raucous and loud, with plenty of meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables offered according to the season and the prevailing harvest.Unfortunately food seldom lasts a week (for some reason French carrots only last a few days) and come Monday I find myself obliged to return to see the lovely ladies behind the Fromager counter in Les Houches and linger some more before their ...
