Monaco: The best of it all in one little country

We return to the ancestral manse
... As always, the venerable Colombe d’Or restaurant, which guarded the entrance to the village, was surrounded, like a swarm of black flies, by Mercedes, BMWs and Jaguars. The Colombe is stuffed with original art by the likes of Picasso and Matisse—in the 1920’s and 30’s these unknown and impoverished artists stayed at the hotel and the prescient owner accepted their painting as payment in lieu of cash.

The day of delays
... but I guess in summer they must be busy. Still seems a ridiculous notion to me that anyone can own a stretch of the beach....surely it belongs to everyone? Lots of designer and brand names in this boulevarde and if you want to buy anything, you better have the big bucks baby! We return to the hotel and book our Roma accommodation, then go out again for dinner. We have found Cannes so far, very uninspiring, although our hotel is very nice. Yes we Cannes!
... garçon (il a 57 ans, quand même!). LA GAFFE si nous étions restés à la maison… toute la table de l’Aïoli y était! Il avait invité amis et voisins que nous avions rencontrés deux soirs avant.
