... way on foot to Congress Hall.
Garry & Jackie had been down earlier in the day and placed our picnic chairs on the Congress lawn to 'save' our place for the fireworks display. It was like festival time with the Island population swelling fro 4,000 to 45,000 for the celebration weekend. On cue, after standing for the American National Anthem,beneath the huge fluttering American flag, the fireworks ...
... was horrific. The traffic was congested and we altered our route to get off route 30. Luckily we had our audio book and learned more about the War of 1812.
Even after a great get-away, it always feels so good to get home again to our beloved Cape May.

The boardwalk here is famous from the tv show "Boardwalk Empire"- but other than that, this was just a stop in readiness to fly from New York...
... and learned about the Coast Guard festival coming up in a few weekends (just missed it!). It was wonderful to spend time catching up with Heather, while the waves crashed along the shore. The tall grasses and sand dunes are just like Cape Cod - it's easy to understand what drew them to this small Victorian town.
After much deliberation, we settled on the Blue Pig Tavern at Congress Hall for a delicious dinner in a cozy setting (see picture below).
I made two trips to Atlantic City while a cadet, at the end of cow and then firstie years. Cow year was post-TEE leave, when a group of Gups (Frank, Mikey, Luke et al.) rented a house near the beach. Despite some unmentionable moments (Scarlett Johansson, anyone?) we had a lot of fun and were able to enjoy some relaxing time together before CLDT and breaking up for the summer. A year later, ...
