      ... we drove to Scarborough which is just north of Perth, and had some beach time. It was windy, but not quite as bad as the day we went to Cottesloe. The water was a nice temperature but it was really rough. There was a strong current and undertow and it was an effort to try and go anywhere as you kept getting pulled the opposite way.       ... over time! Incredible. The same gold has been used in this tour 6-8 times a day for 20 years just continuously being melted and set over and over and over. The flecks they gather when they recycle the pots is added back in every couple of weeks and the exact amount is monitored at the end of very day. Fascinating.

      ... Mary and Dave on their bikes as they have been riding from Darwin to Perth and we have been looking out for them for weeks and weeks. Such an amazing co-incidence that we would see them today and catch up with them and their lives/news in this tiny place : an amazing stroke of good fortune that we would cross paths!

      ... 4 months!!

      Wednesday, 5th November
      Caught the bus into the city and did some sightseeing. Went to the bell tower down near the wharf on the Swan River, and the bell-ringer gave us a demonstration and we were able to ring some of the bells.
      Caught a ferry down the Swan River to Freemantle and had fish and chips for lunch, looking out over the Marina. Went on a tour of the Freemantle Gaol and had a look around ...
