Tuesday 20th October
Up at 5.30 & off to return the car at 7.00. Finally arrived at Gatwick airport at 7.30 & the plane left at 10.15 for Verona. Arrived in 90 minutes & took the shuttle bus to the station & a taxi from there to our Residencia. It isan amazing place with beautiful old furniture, cooking facilities & a lounge area, about 3 times as big as we had envisaged.

Mantova is nestled into a c-shaped lake, giving it some really wonderful trails to bike around on (especially at sunset). ... to the Monument cemetery. A truly different kind of cemetery from those in the states. A very large area with big headstones, mausoleums, monuments and photos of the dead. The Italians take funerals and remembering the deceased very seriously. Our last stop was at the kitschy Balcony of Juliette. Although a fictional character of Shakespeare, this is a popular stop with a balcony for the tourists.

... Juliet's courtyard is covered in love graffiti. It is all scribbles of love notes, and it is really cool to see. After we spent a good 10 minutes in there, it was time to find some lunch. We found this cute place with outdoor seating called Ristorante S. Eufemia. I had the best homemade gnocchi ever there. We only had a short time in Verona, so after lunch we only had about 30 minutes to look around and get gelato. I definitely recommend going to Verona. It was the ...
