          Serene Sirmione

... some time out to think about spending my battery-charging days in a quiet and beautiful city of north-east Italy, Venice. When I told my room-mate that I am going to Venice, he said "You could also visit Sirmione if you get some extra time". I looked it up on the internet, and after looking at the result I decided that I am dropping out Venice and going to Sirmione. Google Maps said it’s a place in kind of middle ...

          ... Friday 23rd October

With Dick still suffering, after breakfast Jane headed off to find the Cathedral, only to find
there was a big funeral in process and thought it would be best to press on to see St Anastasia’s church. But alas, another funeral. She then pushed on out of the city over the Roman Bridge to see the Teatro Romano & after a great deal of step climbing, she was rewarded with great views over the town ...

Mantova is nestled into a c-shaped lake, giving it some really wonderful trails to bike around on (especially at sunset). I rode around on them until dusk and then headed into the centre of the city which I then had to walk most of it due to the cobblestones and how widely placed they were. There was really only a ...

... and we mentioned Seattle, the owner said that he knows Rick Steves who indeed has visited his restaurant. Very proudly he brought out his tablet to show us the video clip. Wine was poured with a very unique aerator that is hand blown glass from Italy. When Kathy asked where we might get one the owner said he would sell us one. Another souvenir of our trip!

Verona has been a lovely stop and one to recommend for a short stay en route to Venice.

... the old city. Hotel Columba D'Oro is only a block from the old Roman Arena that now serves as a concert venue. Upon check-in we were informed that Sunday was the last of a three day regional wine tasting event being held in Verona old town. Over sixty wineries of the Veneto region offered Soave, Valpolicella, Amarone and a few Sparkling wines for visitors to try. The tasting was great bargain ...
