    Saturday 23rd August
    Hello from Palermo, Sicily
Made famous by the Godfather movies and as we walked off the ship we were confronted by a smooth talking taxi driver who said "sir I can do you a good deal", how could I say no, I might be sleeping with the fishes if I did.
We actually did get a pretty good deal, for €90 the driver who could speak a bit of English drove us to the major attractions around town. First ...

... and Taormina’s single main street, the gently climbing Corso Umberto I is lined with chic boutiques, souvenir shops and cafes.

Guss, our tour guide yesterday, had told us to be sure to buy a cannoli from the pastry shop across from the Bank of Sicily. As we were walking on Umberto, we saw the bank so found the pastry shop and stopped to enjoy one. We both agreed we had not had a cannoli like this before.

    Hi S3T,

We expected there would be a food bar on the train but there wasn’t so the lady rang her husband who brought us pizza. The train going on the ferry to Sicily was also exciting. The water was so clear but the weather was proving to be stormy whilst we were in Sicily so we ...

Today we went to Cefalu, a seaside town about an hour away from Palermo. Roads were once again very windy with lovely views. We walked into the main square, and saw the Norman cathedral which is still in use. Mass was on at 9.30 so we attended. There were a lot of children, and the priest then said that they were having first communion next Sunday. Quite a few of the tour group came, lots of Catholics we found out. ...
