... which was just as well, as that was going to be the last garage we were going to see for some time. The roads over here are just dead straight and long with nothing but trees and dust around. Eventually we came across Tin Can Bay were we stopped to admire the view and catch some rays. After a short while thou we realised we had actually set up camp on a little island which ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia karendixon... front for the last stretch to the lake. The lake was fantastic, similar to Lake McKenzie from the first day but alot quieter. After some beach games I set out constructing a fortress fit for a duck, so King Arthur The Duck could sit in safety. All I got was abuse stirred up by Laura, I mean whats wrong with a dude building a sand castle for his friend who happens to be a plastic duck. Anyway I thought he looked pretty cool in it. After some afternoon tea and muffins ...
Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia gaz-lj... s formation and history which would have been very useful at the beginning of the tour. I can now tell you that Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, ( 123km long and 22km wide, much bigger than I had imagined, ) most of the sand has come from the far south east of Australia but some has drifted from Antarctica millions of years ago before the two continents split from each other. The highest point is 244 meters, much of the island is ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia jatty... to Fraser Island. The journey was about 45 mins so we chilled out and did some people watching. Once we arrived at the island it kind of sunk in how big it was, it is 75 miles long and average of 10 wide completely made of sand, its the Largest Sand Island in the World. On the jetty waiting to meet us was our ranger for the tour, his name was Ranger Craig. From the jetty we headed for the transport for the day, where Craig gave us a run of what we are going to be doing for the ...

Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia 3110280477... I could talk endlessly about where I want to be next year, but to get there I have to get through a veritable mountain of full blown adult responsiblity. There is the renting out our beautiful house responsibility, finding work to bridge our mortgage responsibility, making sure we have a present for our friends wedding responsibility and the teaching my two year old child to use the potty responsibility. Gone are the days of a backpack ...
Pialba, Queensland, Australia jadejones... ourselves to a lovely BBQ that night, joined by two Dingos which were possibly attracted by the smell. They can get a bit scary, but we were told that those two live around the camp and are used to tourists. One thing I will never forget is the incredible starry night and how close the milky way was. An incredible scenery.
The "fun" thing about going by car is that everything is stored on top of the car - which means ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia christine.thode... too. Threw a few back and ended up bring 7 home the biggest about 42cm long which seemed one of the biggest caught while we were there. Ended up being a nice arvo and a bit of fun. Headed home as the sun sank over the sand dunes - still hard to get used to it not setting over the water. Hope to go and do some island exploring tomorrow.
Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia drownsroundaus... Sat on the beach for 2 hours with my new book, acquired at the local book exchange (very popular places here for poor backpackers!). Going to continue reading it on the 5-hour bus ride to Agnes Water. Tried the fish & chips fresh from the Bay for lunch, something I was highly recommended to try. I'm glad I did, as it was delicious. Tomorrow, I'm doing a kayak cruise at sunset. Super excited...

Perhaps I’m part of the reason they subsequently built the protective fence for spectators.

After a brief stop in Hervey Bay, well known for its whale watching tours and even better known for the fact that Elle Macpherson’s sister Mimi runs one of the tour companies, we caught yet another ferry to yet another island.
