Longest Train Ride Ever

... moving as people still tried to locate their seats.  A woman and her daughter came to our seats and said they were her's.  The French boy moved across the aisle and I was forced to go down a few seats.  I looked back and invited him to sit in the open seat next to me.  He came over.  I spoke to him in French and explained my situation.  The ticket collector walked towards us.  My palms got clammy.  By time the man reached us, I'd worked out my speech for ...

Lovely Lake Como

... from the point there though which was cool.
Ferry back from Belaggio to Como was a lot quicker (and more expensive) and had some great views of the various places around the lake.

Back in Milan that night discovered the happy hour buffets that I'd read about - 6 Euro for a drink and all you can eat.

Buffet is nothing special, but ...

Milan - excellent seafood paella... not much else

... a cool little wine bar/tobacco shop/lottery agent to have an aperitif and got to hear the waitress singing along to the radio in broken English with lots of made up words.
Had an AMAZING seafood paella at Osteria del Lazzaretto as well as the biggest piece of bruschetta I've had in my life! They also had half a litre of house wine for 4 Euro! Score!

Finally Real Pizza!

... buildings leaning in; the beautiful lilt of Italian and the food, well, we all know how much I love the food! I adore the scooters everywhere and the old fashioned bicycles, I love the big plazas with a sculpture in the middle and the way people talk with their hands. Milan is the “fashion capital of the world” apparently, and believe me, it was apparent. I saw 14 year-old girls walking around that made me question ...

In Which She Feels Very, Very American

... my only free time). I managed to locate a salsa class that starts in October... but salsa doesn't strike me as a morning kind of dance, at least not in the same way as modern or, say, yoga... whatever. Beggars can't be choosers, right? Anywho, things are going well. I need to make more time to write for this blog site, so I can make more MOOOONNNEEEYYYYYY. Crazy adventures: Lately, none, just playing. I was "in prison" today for close to two hours, under the care of ...

The Italian Way

... just hearing it in Italian, making it all the more spiritual sounding. The priest was dressed in a red robe, along with about 10 other men in red robes, about 5 in white robes, and then another 8 in purple robes, all seated behind the priest. No clue as to who they were or what position they held, but in total there were at least 20 of them at the front of the church. I resisted the urge to take a picture right until the end and got two of the front of the church. I felt bad about it ...

Flying through Italy

So, we took the horrible boat ride to Brindisi, Italy. YAY, we made it... We get a bus to the metro station and end up having to walk 2 KM to the main train station where we were lucky enough to catch a train that left in 5 minutes to Pompei!! |Talk about a ton of moving in one 24 hour period!! We got a hostel in Pompei and just crashed. We AGAIN got there during siesta about 5pm so our only horrible option to eat was of course ...

I need some new sunglasses!!

... to let people know we'd arrived safely. That night, we headed out to find a restaurant I'd read about. The metro again was great. But once we got off the metro we had to walk down some dark, small side streets. There were sketchy guys drinking on one street, so we tried to pretend like we were having a very important conversation so we didn't have to look at them. We finally found the restaurant and of course it was closed. We figured that might be the case since the ...
