Feeling the sun on our backs strolling the quaint streets of Hoi An was a pleasant change, although inevitably we were soon diving for suncream and gasping for a cold drink. A small town most famous for its customised shopping opportunities, it was not long until Kim was indulging...this time in a pair of fitted leather sandals/flip flops! For three pounds you can't really complain although the glue sections have started to slip and several nasty blisters have emerged on Kim's feet. I give th...
Hoi An, Vietnam kimandrob... our connecting bus. It turned out we had no need to worry as our first bus delivered us right to the door of our second one and soon we were in Rach Gia itself. This town turned out not to be the prettiest we had seen on our year away or the most functional - we could not find anywhere to eat for love nor money. Instead we caught a motorbike taxi to the boat office where we picked up our tickets for the ferry in the morning, bought some food and had a picnic dinner in our hotel room.
Can Tho, Vietnam chris.cesca... rivers or orchards or very shy and looked away when we said hello!! Today we passed dragon fruit orchards which is a wierd looking fruit.
Today we got to walk over a monkey bridge which is in the poorer areas & they erect a bridge made of bamboo to cross to the other side. It is just tied ...
... clock rang at 5am the next morning and we were on our way to the floating markets by 5.30am. Watching the sun rise over this spectacular part of southern Vietnam was another treat of our trip. The sun slowly rose to illuminate the many tributaries of the mighty Mekong River and the traditional dwellings whose livelihood is taken from this famous waterway. After 30 minutes of so we reached our first floating ...
Can Tho, Vietnam caroline_little... we could say anything, the lady poured it over ice. We felt obligated to buy it even though once we saw the ice, we both got nervous. We just were not sure how the ice was made or where it came from. Then, this afternoon, we found out...
We found a huge street market that sold every animal, every part, every fish and every part of it too. I saw heads, with the eyeballs still in it staring into my camera as I took its picture, snake, eel, squid, tongue, heart ...
... become a recluse... or maybe a famous author or artist! The island was lovely... simple and friendly. After our ride we took a large ferry to VinhLong. We cycled along a road to the outskirts of CanTho and got rained on... it was very refreshing! We stopped just outside CanTho for a great lunch (fish, wontons, pork ribs, noodles/veggies, rice, etc.). After travelling by bus into CanTho we settled into our hotel and had a bit of time to look ...
Can Tho, Vietnam mickeymo... Salmonella hot to get it on with some ugly Ecoli bacteria and who knows what that would produce. On that same note, Vietnam has been pretty underwhelming in the culinary department. Very uninspired. Fellow travelerss say that they think even the Pho back in the states is way better. The bread is good though; slightly crusty but fluffy on the inside. That is my favorite thing so far. Motre later. I am tired and I have HBO in my room
Can Tho, Vietnam donmiller... All kinds of trade along the way. River boats are main trnsportation here, but still enough motorbikes. Around 6pm arrived to Can Tho and checked in the hotel, then went by the river for a dinner and few beers. Got a water snake dinner and hang out with irish, australian guys and koren girl. Morning getting up early and will go to the floating market. P.S. sorry pics (for now)
Can Tho, Vietnam vitasamb2001After waking before the crack of dawn this morning we dragged ourselves out of bed and down to the docks to commence our epic river tour. The husband of the lady who picked us yesterday took us down the river and in and out of many small canals. Being New Year's, the two floating markets were more or less dead (the first had about 10 boats ...
Can Tho, Vietnam varney... Ahh that word) sure? Fifteen minutes down the road and we have arrived at a ferry port. So this is what he meant.....There are a million and one scooters and riders plus the usual cars and lorries all waiting to cross the river via the 6 or more ferries that serve that vital life line. Hi Hi buys our group ticket and we get herded onto the next available ferry. The crossing takes about 10 minutes and once back on land we have now arrived in Can Tho. Hi Hi then hailed some taxi ...
