Taxi wouldn't drive to kata beach without accommodation booked so stopped off to find some where. Found hotel called the Patong Gallery for 1300 bht the night. Nice hotel, fairly central. Left early to phuket town to find Phuket backpackers, central, basic and comfy. Day spent touring around the town. Saw many temples and queen Sirkits 70th birthday preside of gardens and large golden dragon.

Here they go not ...

There are over 300 families in total, with between 1,300-1,500 people. We stopped and wandered a bit, then clambered back onto (read: almost fell off of) the boat for, at long last, a trip to the island where we would picnic and swim. Lunch was delicious and swimming was enjoyable, though our brief attempt to snorkel was ...

... are fairly large creatures who probably eat a lot, we bought 2 bags. :) Our guide tried out his English on us, and in return, we tried his patience (you know I always have lots of questions!). In case you're wondering, yes, the elephants like working, yes, they have a longer life doing this (elephants in the wild lose their teeth as they age, can't eat the hard stuff, and die of starvation), no, they don't eat everything, mainly grass, but ...
