A lovely little town in Vietnam!

Landed in Hue after a great nights sleep. There was a lovely old couple in front of us trying to share thier home-made breakfast with me (Bailey was still sleeping off course!). It was sticky rice and some bread and I dunno what else. Twas nice but not for breakfast. Leaving the station we were met by dozens of touts. They got really annoying and eventually I (still tired and cranky!) told one of them to **** off, and he came at me with his fists closed!I was interested to see how far he'...

Suits You!

Hello y'alls We did indeed kill time until the bus in Nha Trang by sitting in a bar and drinking coke and vietnamese coffee (which we're now quite addicted too, it's made with condensed milk and is awesome). The bus was was 12 hours 6pm till 6am and was not too horrendous, apart from the fact that bus driver spent most of his time on the wrong hand side of the road round blind corners, with a cliff on one hand side of the road, but that seems par for the course round these parts. We just trie...

Rain, Rain and more Rain

After spending 16 hours on the sleeper train from Hanoi we arrived in Hoi An. This was via Danang, what seemed on very short viewing to be best described as god awful, known primarily as the place the Americans landed in the War. It seems that the weather has changed somewhat, from the hot steamy Hanoi sun to constant heavy rain. Some form of typhoon has swept along the Vietnam coast and Hoi An is under water. as I right this I am sitting in an internet cafe next to the river. The banks broke...

Tailors and bad food.

... identical,. Other than that you can find about 30 restaurants that serve horrible food (except for the local crispy wonton, delish) and an abundance of ladies/children/men asking if we want motorbikes, ginger, peanuts and boatrides. Although the streets and buildings are a sight foir sore eyes, when walking down the street all you hear is "Hello, you buy something, ok", "Hello motorbike, cheap cheap." "Hello ...

Drugs and fine garments, then chance encounters

... I decided to go for it, settling on a medium-gray wool and silk three-piece suit, plus five cotton shirts of various colours and patterns. All this would cost a mere £180 - a decent off-the-peg suit alone would cost this much in England! I was measured up and told to come back the next afternoon for my first fitting at 4pm, just twenty-four hours later. They're bloody quick.

I was pretty hungry now as it was about 3pm so I walked down to the riverfront and had some tasty ...

Not all tourist attractions are nice

I finished up my time in Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly, and typically still known as, Saigon). It was a strange place, there wasn't masses to see as a tourist really, possibly as a lot of the older buildings were destroyed during the war, as it was heavily focussed on this area. Also the traffic was by far the craziest we have seen so far, they just never stopped, and during my relatively short time there I saw several minor accidents ...

... surreal experience – swine flu has no entry point here for sure. And I did another what were you thinking – you know the programme that they show on surrealistic experiences. One evening after I’m sure too much red wine I agreed to visit the local waterfall which is a feature of Dak Nong province. Dak Nong is a newly created province if you consider 2005 new and so there’s loads of construction going on and ...

... a tortilla in texture. There was a brown murky sauce, next to the nouc cham, deep with mam tom. To construct: rice paper in hand, add everything on the table, wrap, dip, chew. I did my share to finish what was on the table, a spread intended for a much larger party than a solo diner. Walking back to Bui Vien, my stomach was churning, what had I done? Full? Ha, not quite.....I spent the ...

Vietnam day2

no plan today. woke up and saw a message left by Cong who had gone to work. He lists the 3 meals that his mum has (or will) prepare for us. I feel like vip in hotel. everything is well prepared XD. Breakfast was fried rice with eggs and meats. Quite a typical fried rice we usually eat in malaysia. Nhi brough us to several places like Independence Palace, a church, Diamond Plaza shopping centre, her Institut of Architecture, and War Museum. I was quite surprised of how vietnamese are ...
