... Dean said she feels like she's in her 20's - something that gave me hope for my future as I grow older. Her secret is that she enjoys everything she does, making herself present in the moment and having a good time in between working very hard. She encouraged me to enjoy life and not push myself quite so hard in terms of my internal drive to work so much. Enjoy family, spend time with friends - she encouraged me to ask myself, what bad would happen if I didn't push myself so ...

... has other plans for us. A stray dog runs past the open door to my office and I see that she's recently given birth and is nursing pups. My monkey-mind wonders, where are the puppies while the mom forages for food? A bird chirps in the courtyard outside the open windows in my office and I think to myself, what kind of bird is that? It sounds strange - more like a tweeerp-tweerp sound than a cheep-cheep. And then I think about the different ways that people in Thailand describe the ...

Despite the fact the articles were very well-written, editing each one took a lonnnnggg time. I recommended to Mayuree and Sirimart that they revise their articles based on the feedback I provided and then re-send them to me for more detailed grammatical edits.
After work today, I headed back to the dorm, changed clothes, and ...
... apparent to both Dr. Siriporn and I that what KKU needs right now isn't an online program - at this point, faculty members would be tempted to just upload powerpoint and then the online courses would be as lecture-driven as the on campus classes. The first step towards infusing innovation into nursing education at KKU is breathing new life into the teaching strategies used for the on-campus courses.
I walked Dr. Siriporn through how a faculty member might use ...
... a grant writing class scheduled for this morning but it was cancelled by the hosting professor so I had the morning to work on article revisions. On the way back to my office from the cancelled class, I ran into the jewelry vendor at the food stand downstairs. He was selling some very cool jewelry today so I picked up a few pieces for gifts for people back home. The vendor calls me "senteemental Keemberly" because when he gave me the lotus brooch, I told him it would remind me of ...

The meeting with Fei-Li was challenging because she is incredibly bright and ambitious and she wants to research everything under the sun. Getting her to narrow her focus (and pick a reasonable sampling strategy - i.e. knocking on every door in one region of China to find people over the age of 65 is not a reasonable strategy) is an ongoing challenge. She's a wonderful student, though ...

So new members of the lonely hearts club? Or more Thais to appear and disappear? Who knows? Like I said, more to follow.
I'm hanging out because Steve, Kelly, and I are going out at midnight to see the Lo*** meteor shower. It's supposed to be clearly visible over Asia between 12-4 am, and not this vivid again for 100 years. We'll have to see about that.

I gently explained to them that I'm not leading the entire program but I would call someone who could help them with issues 1-4. Regarding issue 5, I would be happy to do whatever I can to meet their educational needs. I excused myself, ostensibly to use the bathroom, and called Pak, my officemate and one of the coordinators of the program. I told her ...
... work every day, since they are responsible for my "local transportation" during the work day. (It's OK if I ride on a motorbike after the workday ends). This seems like a huge expenditure of resources, given the fact that a driver would have to be assigned to shuttle me back and forth to work everyday. I asked them if they would be OK if I walked instead of taking the van, since it would save money and give me a chance to get some exercise. They were very ...
