Dag 1 Bangkok

A travel blog entry by martinitravels

Dag 1.

Day 7: 1st June
Crossing a further 4 time zones saw us arrive in Singapore at 00:30 UK time, free Wifi, so time to update blogs and upload photos! Changi airport is so chilled out it's untrue with little gardens and prayer areas. Our connecting flight to Bangkok left at the right time, and got us here at around noon, local time. Three …

Bangkok- May 19th

A travel blog entry by elenimia

We are here, and we are safe.   But before that, thirty hours or more of sleepless cramped traveling. The only goofy white kids with backpacks in a sea of tiny Asian bodies. Poor Brian crammed into an airline seat that was literally made for people half his size for 16 hours. 16 hours defined only by a continuous chorus of high sharp Chinese …

Almost 24h Without a Fight: Searching For Khao San

A travel blog entry by inahdi

Not even 24 hours into our dreamy Thai holiday and we had a fight. It all started rather well, with a non-eventful flight into Bangkok (the best kind as far as I'm concerned). Upon arrival we caught a taxi to our hotel, thinking this would be the quickest and easiest method. Maybe, maybe not. Driving through the city in the semi-suicidal style …

Soi Cowboy revisited

... the fifth floor via an overly long escalator that bypasses the first two floors. The place is called Terminal 21 because it is like an airport with each floor a different destination with appropriate features - think theme park. England has an oversized bus, red telephone box even Brick Lane and a small Thai man dressed up as a guardsman. There are so many retail opportunities in Bangkok I guess they have to do something different to attract ...

    Un petit paradis dans bangkok

Cet hôtel est une pure merveille. Nous y sommes restés 3 nuits en Août.

Super accueil, déco sympa, plein de petites attentions du staff, super musique, super petit dej, zen +++. Rose la propriétaire est adorable.

    A recommander.

The most relaxed of all 'central' Bangkok locations

I liked most of all the attitude of staff at the hotel. They were keen to help without seeming overbearing, (I arrived past 10 at night with a belly full of nothing and they were happy to rustle up a divine sandwich despite the cafe being closed) and when I asked for information on getting around Bangkok, they were only too happy to assist.

Lush Garden, Arty Rooms, Organic Food & Friendly Staff

Phranakorn Nornlen Hotel is an incredibly charming boutique hotel nestled in old Bangkok. The concept of this hotel is somewhat unique being run by environmentally aware young Asians. For example, an unusual objective of the hotel is to connect with the near-by urban community. This is achieved by having local vendors as suppliers and by directing guests with maps and directions to appreciate the local restaurants, shops and street vendors. One reviewer in fact called the hotel, 'anti-hotel', in the sense that it is not trying to maximize its profits at the expense of neighbors. Rather this hotel's goal is to try to induce their guests to slow down and appreciate the natural rhythm of life!

Nicest place we have ever stayed

Firstly let me clarify; no one put me up to writing this review and I have no comercial or family/friend link to the hotel whatsoever! Now that's out of the way I'll give you four reasons why it's the nicest place we have ever stayed:

    A hidden treasure!

Incredibly helpful staff go out of their way to make this place seem like a home away from home. Every furnishing and beautifully painted feature is carefully thought out creating a ambience that I only thought possible in fairytales - this is a very special hotel. Breakfast was simple, delicious and organic!

Relaxing in Bangkok before further travelling

This was our first time in this magnificent hotel. When we came of the plane in Bankok, we took a taxi directly to this hotel and after a long flight it's good to chill. This place takes you away from the busy life of Bangkok city and with its good (organic!) food and drinks and friendly staff you can gather strenght for further travelling. It's situated in the old center of Bankok, Chinatown.
