10/10 Nguyen Tri Phuong Hue, Vietnam, T827729
only a 3 hour journey to the village of hue. the heat hits us as soon as we get off the bus and we know it's gonna be hard to keep cool!! We head straight for the citadel, an enclosed area of the town on the north of the river where old palaces and temples stand. We see the flag tower, the nine holy canons, the Thai hoa palace, and the nine dynastic urns. some of the gates surrounding the buildings were so beautifully decorated with 3d dragons and unicorns. The dragon is a symbol of vietnam a...
Hue, Vietnam bridyfitzWe arrived in Hue bright and early on the 4th April after another tedious overnight experience, this time on a bus. After a very minimal amount of sleep we arrived only to be bombarded by a group of hotel staff waving business cards in our direction and asking us to stay at their hotel. We followed one of these people a couple of metres to the Phong Nha Hotel and decided on a clean and comfy room (with cable tellie for the football of course) for $10/night - including breakfast. After decidin...
Hue, Vietnam cantsitstillThe border crossing from Laos to Vietnam was definitely the worst yet, but probably something to do with the bus journey. When we got on the bus we were put into random seats at the back (the front was for locals), and I, despite being lucky enough to get a window seat, had a window that didn't close!! The journey was about 20hrs with about a 3hr stop in the middle while we waited for the border to open. The bus guy was charging us all for getting our passports stamped, but a few people kicke...

Great things had been said about Hue - the ancient capital of Vietnam - and accordingly we had high expectations.
However, it was slightly dissappointing, the citadel - the sight of some of the fiercest fighting during the American war was very impressive but there was very little else to do or see. However, we stayed amused for a few days before moving on to Hoi An.
The bus journey took just under 6 hours so we arrived in Hue by lunch time. That bus journey had been so bumpy and it left my back in bits for a few days. We found a nice place for 10 dollars and then after settling in went for a wander around the city and the old quarter. The heat of the day was getting to us so we took a siesta for a couple of hours then went for a lovely indian meal beside our hotel. The next morning we set out early to go see the citadel which was the palace back in the d...
Hue, Vietnam sarahanddermot After a 12 hour night bus journey to Hue we had Moto Taxis to pick us up (yes a Moped, driver one passenger and a 16-20kilo backpack) to take us to our hotel. We checked in and went out for a wander to the Citadel, had lunch in a very nice classic Vietnamese Restaurant Ngo Co Nhan.
Hung about for the rest of the day and then met up with the wenches and..... Sam at DMZ bar for a few cocktails and then an early night!
The next day was a lazy morning, followed by a a stroll around ...
... in a dorm for about $2.25. He pointed down the road and said "internet café" and off I went. He caught up with me and offered to take me on his moped in the rain to the internet shop. I was blown away by his generosity, I even paid for him to fill up his tank, that sentiment quickly turned to another feeling as we pulled up to a gigantic hotel and he said "my hotel, has internet" I felt obligated to stay there after he drove me for 10 minutes in the rain. I haggled with him and the ...

Within the Imperial enclosure is the Forbidden purple city, where the King and his concubines lived (and the only servants were eunuchs so they posed no threat for the concubines). It was named such as it was originally painted purple and the concubines outfits were traditional Áo Dài in purple with white tousers.

... i go out, even sometimes when they decide i am out and I'm not, surely it can't save that much money?! I didnt realise it was happening til i put a salad in there one day and went to eat it the next.
So everything is going well for me here so far, sure there have been some dramas and at times i have been really frustrated with the way things are done, but thats all part of the experience and I am enjoying it.
thats all for now,
