A vacation from vacationing.

... I was still pretty exhausted and didn't have my head in the game the way I should have. I am sure that I will learn to stay closer to my camera in future ventures so I don't lose the memories of what makes all this travel so great.<br>

... is still there and we are told that the hotel (which we didn't actually see because we were looking at the golf course across the road) had to be rebuilt after hurricane Ivan 2004 (they thought). The hotel has been there for close to a century and it was the first time it had sustained significant hurricane damage. We did stop at a lovely park and pier in Fairhope and then downtown to a fantastic shopping area of small stores. I couldn't ...

... will affect these communities. Tourism and the service industries seems to be 'it' for the local businesses. This section of the gulf coast will draw me back for a visit during warmer weather. The dunes were enticing, but on the wrong side of the a road for a quick look see! One of the disadvantages of traveling in a large vehicle is that parking can sometimes be a problem. We also found it cool - the temperature didn't ...

... Thank goodness too that they have a state park. I swear if it wasnt for that, there truly would be nothing but condos along the coast! After a beach stroll, we drove off to Foley and happend upon Lamberts Cafe- famous for 'throwed rolls'. Get this deal: I ask for carry out rolls- they only sell them by 1/2 dozen. (ok i think, ive seen this scam before- whadya want? $2/roll, min of 6 rolls?.......NO!!! 1/2 dozen= $2.97!!!!) Im in heaven. Not ...

The Gulf Coast - a great place!

... After a quick unload and reload at Jimbo's house, along we went eastward an hour or so past the Florabama, to a fabulous little gem of an urban park, the Big Lagoon State Recreation Area. This is a state park (I think) in Perdido Key, which is a bit west of the Pensacola Naval Air Station. On the north side of the lagoon were the infamous Florida condo towers. The south side of the lagoon where we went was beautiful ...

Day 157 Panama City Beach - Dauphin Island-Alabama

... of us on the left, directly in front of us was a car with a low bed trailer, the "party car" front passenger had the door open, even as the cars started moving forward, as the trailer moved forward the corner of the trailer caught the door! "Oh dear" the driver stopped before ripping the door off, but when he backed up, the door no longer closed correctly. They attempted to have a discussion on the ferry, but the ferry loader simply signalled ...

... of the first times I had ever swam in the Gulf of Mexico. In the Gulf the water is much warmer and there are hardly no waves at all. This means that there are a creepy amount of fish all over the place. They surround your legs as you stand in the water and you can feel them brushing up against you and occasionally even nibbling you.

HAPPY (EARLY) ANNIVERSARY At ORANGE BEACH, ALABAMA

... wonderful. It did rain but mostly all around us. When it did rain we were at the Wharf and on our way to Johnny Rockets. It was fun and the food was really good. We usually don't play the juke box but did this time. I was surprised by the song my daughter-in-law played. I did not know she likes the Temptations! We ate at our favorite places again and again the food was delicious. One place we ...

... from the lakeshore, where he kept his boat in the water and fished whenever he wanted to. There was an abundance of good restaurants on the beach road nearby, as well as a big WalMart. For those of you that don't know, WalMart is rather important to the RV life. Most of them allow overnight parking, as well as, most of the stores now are SuperCenters that have groceries, pharmacies, beauty salons, and just about anything else, so it's an easy one-stop place. etc.
