Travel Blogs by Travelers Who Stayed at the Phi Phi Island Cabana Hotel Ko Phi Phi Don

Phi Phi, Thailand

After a 90 minute boat we officially landed in the tropical paradise of Ko Phi Phi island. This island is probably the most beautiful place that I have ever been to. The water and beach are perfect but what makes it truly incredible are the towering tree covered rock cliffs that cover most of the island. The only inhabitable place is a small town in the middle of the island. This village was practically wiped off the map by the 2004 Tsunami. In fact, much of the footage on Western TV was fro...

Another Beautiful Island in Thailand

... little bar called sunflower bar right down at the quiet end of the beach, and witnessed a domestic between the owners. Then, watched a fire show on the way back. It was actually quite good, although a few of the guys kept dropping the fire sticks which didn’t fill us with much confidence when they threw them high into the air… There was this one girl who was amazing though; every time she performed she got a huge round of ...

3rd Day in Phi Phi... Hiking to Long Beach!

... now takes you through a couple of resorts that were hit by a tsunami. They are of course abandoned, the small buildings have three of the four walls they once had allowing you to view the inside. Most of the furniture is still in the rooms and what was once the lobby areas.
As you continue walking, the trail now takes you back down to a small beach area. There is a swing in the tree ...

bucket time

... We liked the beach bar behind our place with the impromtu fire shows. One of the bars had a muay thai ring inside where you could fight your friend for a free bucket.

The beach was a litle disappointing - loads of pollutions, extreme shallow water, and they line it with chairs and charge to sit on the beach (only $3/day) but we still opted for cheap cheap and laid on the sand for free. This is the island that was devasted in the '04 tsunami, the govt tried o put ...

... northern Thailand. Their friendliness and openness is very welcoming. The countryside of all that I have traveled is tropical beautiful, but particularly the northern part of Thailand and Laos just to its east. Luang Prabang, Laos, was probably the most laid back and peaceful. It has grown from a backpacker haven into a quiet little hamlet with great restaurants and beautiful walks along the bookend rivers that enclose it.

... up because there was a ranger there waiting for us & so crept an hour back. It took so long because the sea bed was full of sharp dead coral, which they apparantly removed for making the film & then replaced! For the record our accommodation in Phi Phi was lovely!

... so we asked our taxi driver to take us to a few hotels, which were mediocre at best. They wanted to charge unreasonable prices and so we thought we were stuck as we waited at the last hotel. The manager that had shown us around said that they could get us a better price if we ditched the cab driver. We knew something shady was going on and the taxi driver was only taking us to the places that would pay him a commission/finder's fee. We said the heck ...

Round The Islands - Part 1a

... free. In the end for our sakes and the sakes of our neighbours we had to switch it off and just take the heat. Can be done! During our 4 days here we settled on the beach at Aoh Phranang. It was stunning and the beach vendors incredibly friendly. Corn on the cob and a Singha became staple diet. We met lots of nice folks during the 4 days, ate tons of immense food and partied at Tom's bar a lot . The party was in full swing and we were both having fun. Time to move on to Phi Phi though.

I have to say it was GREAT to see the kids, if only for a few days. Their visit was my first real interaction with someone from home since I left Boston. E-mail and chat work well enough, but it was so much better to spend time with some good friends in person. THANK YOU GUYS! No insta-friends in several days is a good break. I've often commented that I should walk around with a name tag that answers the questions that are asked ...
