Ko Phi Phi, it actually gets more beautiful?

As if Thailand had already offered enough beauty, we then found ourselves in Ko Phi Phi. This was the quintessential romantic getaway that so many had promised in these islands. Ko Phi Phi Don, and neighboring, uninhabited Ko Phi Phi Ley perch out of the water with huge green-covered cliffs that outline the island of even more beautiful green and turqouise water than was in Ko Tao. The different shades of blue and green in this water is unlike any place I've ever seen. As it gets more shallow...

Koh Phi Phi Don

We arrived in Phi Phi safe and sound. We paid 5 pound for a minibus from where we were staying in Kata to the port and for the boat to take us across to Phi Phi. We were a little concerned at what the bus and boat would be like as we have heard horror stories but they were both fine! I woke up that morning feeling really sick and the choppy journey across didn't help at all. Still it all settled down after I had something to eat. Phi Phi is a great little island. The beach is quite small but ...

Phi Phi Island

Though you may not have visited Phi Phi Island, I'm sure you have seen pictures or video footage of it back in 2004 after the massive tsunami that hit 12 countries after the earthquake near Sumatra. To refresh your memory, the tsunami happened on Dec. 26 and among the many countries it affected, Thailand was hit pretty hard. 5,395 were killed, 8457 injured, and 2932 went missing in Thailand alone. I remember seeing video footage on TV of an island being swept over by the wave, and we hiked up...

A Little Island In My Life

On Thursday, I got picked up to go to the pier, to take a boat to Koh Phi Phi, an island south of Phuket. The first day there was a little rough. I booked a hotel before I went and it wasn't anything like I was expecting. I was pretty sure I made sure they had free Wi-Fi internet, but when I got there they didn’t. The room wasn’t very nice either. Normally I don’t care about the internet, but my masters courses of course started this week and so I needed the internet to atte...

Ko Phi Phi

Ko Phi Phi As we said in the previous entry there has to be more to Thailand than what we had already seen so far. And thankfully we have found it. The island of Phi Phi is amazing. So pretty, laid back and completely different to Phuket. We took the 8:30 ferry across from Phuket Town harbor and arrived at about 10:30. The ferry included a quick tour around the southern island of Ko Phi Phi Leh. We got a quick glimpse of Maya Beach made famous for the 1999 Movie 'The Beach'. It looked chocka ...

Hello-Hello Welcome, Welcome! (Buckets and Beers)

It took 5 separate buses and two ferries to haul ass from Samui to Phi Phi. 4 days booked, we basically spent our first day moving, getting into a bus, off the bus on the ferry, back on, off, onto a minibus, over to a waiting station to another minibus, to another waystation to another minibus to the ferry to the port, where we were picked up by a man pushing a cart because Phi Phi has no cars, as even the motorcycles are few and far between.
In 2004 December, the Tsunami that caused so m...

... to the hostel instead of waiting for the van to drop us off - well this was Daniels bright idea. Once back at the hostel we showered and had a lie down for an hour or two before going for tea - Laura and Zoe suffering from the heat decided to chill out in the hostel whilst Daniel went to watch the football in the travelers bar. He returned slightly drunk but wouldn't except this, the fact he cleaned his teeth twice straight after each other was bit of a giveaway.

... could have been in a better place. Phi Phi has a great mix of paradise & party. We still sat on the beach all day & drank a lot! Can't remember a lot after about 4pm! Boxing day we took a long tail boat to Phi Phi Leh, the actual beach from the film "The Beach ...

Krabi

Krabi was our next stop as we had been recommended to go here by a couple of people during our trip. We didn't originally plan on it and decided to forego Phuket for more time in Krabi. After arriving in Krabi, we thought that we should have spent more time in Phi Phi Don. It reminded us of Phuket. Many vendors harassing you to buy their food, trinkets, and it seemed like everyone and their dog sold tailored suits. We had to find our own accommodations ...

Round The Islands - Part 1a

... more profitable. Whilst we waited they were good enough to give me a backie to the local Spar so I could pick up some beers for G & I. Once back at the boat we came to a negotiated outcome on the price of the boat without waiting for any other passengers. When we pulled into the bay at Railay the limestone carsts and mountains were floodlit and the place just looked incredible - good choice. WE settled on the Ya Ya beach resort primarily because of the cost. It was less than a ...
