... wasn't quite enough but it was time for us to check out what was under the water. Around the eastern side of Phi Phi Ley we visited two spots for a swim and snorkel. At the first stop we swam above coral with loads of brightly coloured fish, there were so many that Cesca thought they were touching her - maybe another free fish massage! Our second stop was in a beautiful lagoon where we had lunch and then a quick dip before heading back to the main island.
Ko Phi Phi Don, Thailand chris.cesca... of the ocean either side. The central connecting strip of land is only a few meters above sea level at its highest, and on either side of the strip there is a crescent moon shaped white sand beach, like two semi-circles back to back. One side is principally a ferry terminal and dock land, while the other side (the north side) is the tourist beach. We’d been given some advice about hostels and restaurants from Nico, a souse lad we ...
Koh Phi Phi Don, Krabi, Thailand kateandlindsay... is an exciting cityscape where everything is slightly mental to the point of bordering on the insane. From pulling wheelies in a 1am Tuk Tuk race, to assaulting the senses in China Town, to a more sedate trip around the Grand Palace and everything in between, we had 3 days here before leaving Tim to go home and the rest of us taking a 12 hour night train to Chiang Mai in the north of the country.

Chiang Mai is a nice ...
Ko Phi Phi Don, Thailand thebiga... from the budgeting point of view!
Anyway, I immediately went hunting for the roads less travelled, and after wandering past 8 billion scuba diving centres ("fancy a dive tomorrow mate" "feel like diving tomorrow" "Ever tried diving"...) and 16 billion Thai massage shops ("OOh, handsome man - you want massage?" "OOh, you handsome - you want massage?") I found a nice Thai restaurant with many Thai people eating there (which is usually a giveaway). It was owned by a ...
Ko Phi Phi Don, Thailand jamiemeasures... a seat. I was lucky enough to have met a nice gentleman from Ireland, Alan, he got right in there and retrieved my bag for me. Yay Alan!
Getting off the ferry, there are several people trying to sell and book your accomodations. It's quite overwhelming because there are so many hotels, villas, bungalows and guest houses to choose from at various price ranges. I chose to keep walking and take my chances ...
Koh Phi Phi, Krabi, Thailand mdh... are no roads or motorised vehicles on the island), looking at various rooms and we were starting to think we'd have to settle for something really basic if it was going to fit in to our price-range. Eventually we succumbed to a rather stern but comical tout named Sallee. She promised us the best beach bungalows on the island for 500THB a night. We followed her back to our office where she presented us with a push bike each and told us to follow some guy to the bungalows ...
Ko Phi Phi, Thailand katieandphill... to make sure that we enjoyed visiting their home town! They bought us water and towels and I've got a nasty suspicion, they paid an entrance fee alhough completely denied it. The spring is actually upriver from where we were and flows downstream into a series of bathtub shaped pools and then down over a waterfall. It was fantastic, exactly the same temperature as a bath but with a built in jacuzzi. I ...
Krabi, Thailand sanctipauli... made plans to leave our bags in the room overnight since you can't really camp on a beach with all of that luggage. After making reservations for the next night to Phi Phi Lay, we headed out to the Phi Phi Don nightlife. Although it was slow season, all of the most popular hotspots were open. Every one of these bars/nightclubs offered what was called a "Bucket." It was literally a plastic bucket filled with whiskey, vodka, or any other libation and some mixer. I would have to ...
Ko Phi Phi Don, Thailand ramrtw... bargain much and you are sure to over pay for goods. Same with taxies in these areas are used to charging frang 4x what they get from a local for the same ride, and this is what they expect to be paid. 4) Violence - Thai people are for the most part conflict averse and non violent, but they can be pushed over the edge. I heard a number of stories where travelers angered a local Thai to the point of violence. One British girl relayed to me this story. She was drunk in a ...
