Cairo, Al Qahirah, Egypt troublefree... was over a man got on the microphone and was pumping up the crowd, talking about Canadians at the Pyramids. My dinner group was an American couple and 3 Canadian girls so we were a little confused what was happening. Turns out Lordco Auto parts from Vancouver (my home town!) had rented the Pyramids for a private show that night AND flow Canadian rocker Tom Cochrane over for a concert in front of the Pyramids!!! There we were, enjoying a great ...

Cairo, Egypt melano... the group.

At one point the Columbians started teaching us dirty terms in Spanish. I looked across at Victor and said, "Man, I really didn't expect to be sitting on a beach on the Nile in Egypt learning how to say dirty things in Spanish from a bunch of drunk Columbians while practicing my Spanish...yeah, that's not how I envisioned this day of the trip." But it was so fun, and I probably got 1+ hours of practice in.

We also began to realize ...
Cairo, Egypt jimmyandkristen... about seeing Israel for the first time, I can't help but think about my close family friends who are Jewish. It's a similar story to my Lebanese family; growing up we celebrated all the Jewish holidays together, I think we even went to temple, and by the age of 6 or so I thought I was Jewish. I definitely appreciate my parents exposing my brother and I to these different (yet similar) cultures and ...
Cairo, Egypt encantada... know what's going to happen. The only plan that I had for the day was to go to the Egyptian Museum with. Afterwards Jen and I decided to make use of the fact that we were downtown to go book my trip for Abu Simbel, Aswan and Luxor. At the travel agents Jen and I were asked if we wanted to attend, what we were told, an Egyptian wedding. One of the van drivers of the travel agent is getting married, since he's driven us before Jen and I agreed and ...
Cairo, Egypt evelyn.ng... t I try this before? Water + toilet paper MUST be more effective than dry toilet paper, right?

*As a whole, the Middle East is quite inexpensive. My US Dollars go a long way here.

The Middle East - Lowlights
*I found the Egyptian people to be increasingly frustrating. I can't recount the number of times - each day - that someone lied to my face or tried to rip me off. Perhaps if I had visited the Western Oases, away from the ...
Cairo, Al Qāhirah, Egypt sabarod... class carriage seemed to contain about five times as many people as it could seat, and made finding our places and storing our luggage incredibly difficult. But with the conductor’s whistle blowing all the extras made it off, and as the train pulled out from the platform we were treated to some energetic singing and clapping from a massive group of wedding guests sitting on the ground of the platform, giving the bride and groom on the train alongside a rousing send-off.
Cairo, Al Qāhirah, Egypt troywilkinson... the other three of us to the bar in Intrepid’s other hotel, the nearby and far plusher Victoria, to meet a tour leader running another trip. With Hoges and I being Australian Rules Football fans (me of the Bombers and him of the ever suffering Tigers) we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity of meeting a real mongrel of footy, former Western Bulldogs fullback Danny Southern, who had now swapped Footscray and the Western Oval for Pharaohs and the Western Desert.
