It was time to head east into the middle Cyclades again - Richard had a flight to catch - so we sailed the hundred miles or so via green Spetsai (where Niarchos owns an island), then through to Seriphos where Richard caught a ferry. Mostly good sailing but had the jib up down countless times as the wind was flukey and we ran out of wind. We spent the day here relaxing on the beach. The water was the perfect temperature for swimming. The boys spent their day diving off the dock, swimming, snorkeling and fishing. Exploring Milos

The weather was very settled, in fact there was now very little wind and we thought we would stay a while and explore Milos further. An island rich in minerals it has been mined extensively for Alum, Sulphur, and Barium. Open cast mines scar the landscape every where. Milos is also famous for the discovery in an olive grove of the famous statue "Venus de Milo" by a local farmer.

... locals donned their shower caps for early morning and evening swims. They seemed very impressed with my freestyle - the bay was so flat I could get quite a bit of speed up, and a few shouts of 'bravo' came my way. Of course I was buggered after probably the most exercise yet in my 8 months of travelling, but it felt good to enjoy the waters of the Greek Islands for the last time, before heading off to Athens the following morning.

... right. The people coming down the hill were locals and were annoyed. I waited for the car in front to go and then attempted a hair raising hill start. Michael thought I handled the situation very well and with rational behavior and later told me I had about 10mm to spare on the passenger side. At this point I said enough, stopped t a carpark near our hotel, bought some yummy Greek sweets to treat myself and retired for the evening, feeling rattled but successful all at the same ...
