... had given them.
We set our heading for Ancient Thira. Climbing back up the winding road we parked at top near the entrance. I opened the car door only to have it wrenched from my grasp. The wind at the top felt strong enough to blow us off the side of the mountain. We found the ticket office closed but the gates open so in we went. There was a fellow sitting just inside and when I asked him whether we need to buy a ticket he simply replied 'tickets tomorrow’. Good ...
There are simple ways of getting to Oia (or Ia as it is also know and how you pronounce it), such as bus, taxi or hire car. But who needs simple? I had read as part of my research about the wonderful walk between Fira and Oia and I thought we'd give it a try. Loading up the backpack with some supplies (but forgetting water of all things) we set off through the town of Fira which seamlessly turns into Firostafani. Along the way there are so many photo opportunities to get pretty pictures of ...
Fira, Cyclades, Greece guykb... and also strange that they needed to sleep first thing in the morning (presumably having slept all night).
We had a smooth(ish) trip, playing cards and practice with jacks to while away the hours. Highlights including visiting Paros, Naxos and Ios along the way, watching the loading and unloading of the ferry as we went. We arrived at the port of Santorini pretty much on time. Sailing into the caldera (the large bay left after a volcanic explosion 3500 ...
... Lastly, we rode out to the Red Beach. The beach is in an alcove and made up of red rocks-- it was very pretty. We rode back to Perissa, turned in our ATVs and stopped for a drink at a bar near our hostel. We chose this particular establishment because it had live music that consisted of an old Greek man singing and playing the guitar and keyboard. Imagine Mickey Rourke chain smoking and singing the wrong words to songs like Hot Stuff by Donna Summer. It was amazing.
Perissa, Cyclades, Greece jylliegSo we've spent the last 2 1/2 days here in Perissa on the island of Santorini. It is absolutely gorgeous here... and very cheap. Again, our hotel is 12 euros a night with a pool, bar, and its about 30 metres to the beach/ocean. There are tons of greek restaurants around us with some good food. I even tried octopus... now my stomach has been upset... oh well, its getting better and I've been drinking lots of water ...
Perissa, Greece ericavt... starter, fish soup to share, and Ai Ling had cod fish and I have rabbit. Nope, the rabbit is not enough for me...
The sign of the restaurant is pretty well decorated in the stone wall.
Awww..... the night view of the Caldera...
... somewhere there...
By lunch time, I drove all the way to Oia. The sunset here is supposed to be very nice. But since we are going to for the boat ride tonight, I thought we might as well pay a visit here in the afternoon and see it first. And of course, nothing special in the scenery during the ...
... Otherwise, maybe I could have a go at the bells myself :p

We were lucky in a way that the rain never really came, just the dark clouds. The clouds just came and went.
We had a sumptuous dinner that night, with a little bottle of Rosé, and we are out for the night.
... It has thousands of jewelry stores selling expensive silver and gold trinkets to the one-day tourists off the cruise ships. It was crowded and noisy so we didn't linger long. We decided to explore further south, but with no map we just followed the road and ended up in Kamari. There we found a sign pointing to "Ancient Thira archeological site" and before we knew it, we were on a cobbled marble road heading up the mountain. The road was steep and ...
Santorini, Greece scootergal... Though not at the top the view was still terrific. You could see all around the islands, even the little houses on the shore perched on top of the cliffs! A short time later we arrived at the hot springs where we had a quick dip. It was still hot and the cool ocean water was a welcome releaf from baking on the ships deck. The swim from the ship to the hot spring was only about 100 mtrs but I can tell you now that I am al little out of shape, it felt closer to 1000mtrs! The spring ...
