Day 2 (Dead Sea)

£1 = 1.25 jd (jordanian dinar) LP = lonely planet As flying goes this wasn't the best, as first days go, this wasn't great Emirates themselves were ok, but nothing special, we left London Heathrow an hour late but arrived on time at 03:25, flight just short enough that I didn't really get to sleep, watched some movies, didn't enjoy the food Dubai airport looked pretty darn impressive from outside, inside the smell hits you - goats cheese...from about 1000 pairs of stinky shoes and socks of pa...

Day 3 (Petra)

Everyone knows about Petra because of one incredible façade, that amazing picture of the treasury, which has become synonymous with Petra Indiana Jones, and being voted as one of the new 7 wonders of the world have only accentuated the myth and legend of the rose red city Back to here and now, from the visitor centre you walk 800m downhill to the gateway of the Siq You enter the Siq and are instantly in awe, the Siq is a 1.2km walkway through a massive single block of stone, at times stretchi...

Day 4 (Petra)

The second day starts with the now familiar path down the siq to the treasury We stop at the treasury and decide on the 3 jd camel ride, but actually just to get a photo on a camel in front of the treasury Then its off to visit the royal tombs - its pretty cool walking around, you do some climbing over rocks, and visit the Uneisha Tomb, Urn Tomb, Silk Tomb, Corinthian Tomb and the Palace Tomb. Its a fantastic adventure and a little off the beaten track, hence quieter. Then we walk to the Petr...

finally... Indianna Jones territory - Petra !

I was up at 6am to take some photos of the sunrise over camp - it was going to be another beautiful day in Jordan - the weather has been amazing here! I hopped back into bed for a little snooze and then got up around 7.30 for food so i could be ready for our 8am departure. We thanked our hosts and said goodbye then 4WD back to civilisation. We were only about 5 mins from the closest town in the end, soon realising we had just done a massive loop. I got a great pic of a 'camel crossing' sign t...

Sunny, 65F, light winds. I awoke quite early and was showered and breakfasted (free buffet at the Petra Moon Hotel) by 6:45, confirmed my trip to Wadi Rum for tomorrow, and through the entrance gates by 7am. I realized in the morning that my overzealous 7 hours of walking the day before had left me with at least 3 blisters. Fortunately, Jason convinced me to bring my flip-flops and that's the only thing I could put on my feet. There were no other tourists in the siq, just a friendly Bedouin m...

Petra

We left Jerusalem early in a shared taxi. 68 NIS total and we were on the bus waiting for the final passengers. I had gotten a bit spooked at breakfast on the roof this morning--we were feeding the cats, enjoying the sunshine, the olives and the view. And I noticed a playing card laying face down on the ground between our chairs. I reached for it and turned it over as I picked it up...uh oh...Ace of Spades. Travel days already are nerve-racking enough without the death card showing up at brea...

Petra Please

December 13, 2007 Wadi Musa, Jordan There is only one place in Jordan that we really wanted to see and that is the Lost City of Petra. To see Petra we have to go to Wadi Musa. The local bus from Amman to Wadi Musa costs 2.5JD per person, but costs us 10JD because we had to pay for two extra seats for our luggage. We are not really backpackers. We are more like Gypsies, with everything we need or could possibly need in our bulging bags. We arrived before noon at Wadi Musa. We take a taxi from ...

... important Nabataean king, the site almost defies description. It has to be seen to be believed. We feel dwarfed by the huge size of the façade (30 m. (100 ft.) wide and 43 m. (140 ft.) high). It is truly breathtaking.

Further into the site is the Street of Facades, the highlight of which is the weather-worn 7,000 seat amphitheatre. Further north above the path are the Royal Tombs, standing elegantly in various stages of erosion ...

I have wanted to visit here since i was a child

... to see it from childhood before the place became as famous as the site of the Indiana Jones movie. I was impressed by it and was surprised it was such a huge area and so much work had gone into building it. We still had plans to return in the morning as we had a 2 day pass for the site. We got a taxi back to the hotel where we had a wonderful shower and bagged up our filthy clothes till we could get room and bathroom to wash them. Our spot on the roof was to be shared ...

Petra Baby!

Salam Aleykum Habibi, So today we spent the full day at Petra, one of the 7 new wonders of the world. Well, what can be said about such a majestic and incredible sight? The structures date about 2000 years and some are still in incredible shape, especially the Treasury. The treasury is featured in the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade for those who dont know what Im talking about. If you still dont know, I'll show pics. In fact, I havent uploaded any pics ...
