... was beautiful. Unfortunately our photos do not do it justice, but we were so impressed! We got to see it for the rest of the gondola ride too! Much longer than my 2 second glimpse last trip! Owakudani was cold & windy, so we had a quick look at the sulphur pits and went for the gondola to Togendai. We saw Lake Ashi and it was very windy & choppy. We were also worried we would not get back in time for the last cable car train to our hotel, so we ...

Back in my room I first had to prepare my bed, since I had a classic tatami-room with futon (first time!). After two nights I'm still not sure what to make of it. It's special, but I definitely prefer the comfort of my box spring.

Back at the hotel our room had an open air onsen spa that we enjoyed while drinking Gin and Tonic. The ...

Here the hot springs, erupting geysers and bubbling pools of boiling mud dominate a fascinating landscape. We take the Hakone rope way from Sounzan down to Togendai on lake Ashinoko. We take a boat journey around the lake which is a water filled volcanic crater with a circumference of 18K. We are now making our way to Tokyo by ...

... of the mountain. Far earlier than planned we set off for Hakone and had some lunch before going up the Hakone sky gondola to the Owakudani Valley. Here we went for a walk up to where the geothermal activity was taking place so we could see the sulphur clouds hard boiling eggs and turning them black. It reminded me a lot of Rotorua in New Zealand. We descended back down the mountain on the coach ready to get on our pirate boat across Lake Ashi. From here you ...
