Better than Disney!

Today we drove up into the mountains to see the fairy tale castle, Neuschwanstein. This is another of Ludwig's castles, this one unfinished, and served as the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. It is gorgeous and the views of it and from it are breathtaking.

After our tour we drove to Kempten and stayed at the Peterhof downtown. This was our first room with a tv...all German stations, of course!

Dining around Füssen

... experience.

Der Hirsch offers local Allgäu dishes. We did not try this one out, so no comment, but according to our host, its also very good.

For the sweet tooth: You have to try "Kaiserschmarrn" with vanilla ice cream. In the Allgäu it is a main dish offered at lunch time or dinner, and usually costs around EUR 10. The dish consists of cut up raisin filled pancakes, and served with icecream.

Neuschwanstein castle

... free camping ahead :) We drove towards Munich and parked once again on the street in a small town, which has by far been our most common theme for free camping but is usually the safest choice for us. The best part about Fred is that he is small enough to park on the street and does not look like a campervan, so anyone who sees him most likely would think it was a mail truck or something…at least that is what we tell ourselves :)

Castle Neuschwanstein & Composer Richard Wagner

... to visit Ludwig's palace. One of Wagner's compositions also included a cave story, and so Ludwig II had one of the interior rooms styled like a cave interior with stalagmites and stalagtites.

Nearby castle Hohen Schwangau was very impressive looking from the outside but according to many tourists not really worth a visit from inside, so we decided to skip that castle.

Schloss Anger Alp

High up in the Allgäu Alps, a few miles from the village of Pfronten, we visited a very isolated for over 100 years family-run luxury hotel for dinner. A beautiful wooden structure with a grand view of the Alpe foothills, and cow bells of cows grazing in the pristine alpine highlands could be heard throughout our dinner stay.

The hotel served a gourmet dinner of freshly prepared local and international dining variety.

Kieran & James are in demand

... get to the garage where Sylvia & Keith, and Dean & Helen were waiting.
It appears they had managed to get in contact with a guy they had met on the Rally last year. He lives about 20 miles away, and had gone to them, opened his garage to do the necessary repairs, and returned them to the garage in Feldkirch. Gaz & Charlotte went on with the rest, and we spent a night in a nearby hotel, not too reluctantly, although it was a bit expensive!

Schloss Neuschwanstein

... The Schloss is the last stop on the Romantic Road in Germany. There were many Japanese tourists, which was fun for us to see. Unfortunately one side of the castle was under repair, but it was still beautiful to see the castle in its lush surroundings.

Deutschland / Bavaria / Alemania (aka Germany)

... King Ludwig bankrupted the state to build it, but after many years, and a little care, it has become one of the largest tourist attractions in the world, so not entirely wrong of King Ludwig...we can call him a man of vision. One of Germany's finest, the city of Munich that is absolutely great, home of the famous Hofbrauhaus, and also Oktober-Fest. Last year 10 million liters of beer were drank by the attendees of the fest. Much of Munich sustained damage from the World ...
