... it's different when they're your own apparently). The beautiful scenery almost made up for it as the train hugged the river bank on its way east. The carriage, full of disinterested parents (be indifferent when they're your own?) was maintained at an uncomfortable and airless 30 degrees by the Paddington-esque hard stare coming from behind us every time we made a move to open a window. It was with some relief then that ...
Lamego, Northern Portugal, Portugal warm... hours in which my host in Porto, José Martins, and I struggled to meet each other. I would have a number of such instances as Satan was really attempting to destroy the success of this trip, but God always intervened. I observed the Sabbath on April 4 in the home of José Martins, who is a long-standing member, and his family, namely his wife, Rosa ...
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal jorgedecampos... an air pump stolen from your neighbour then fall asleep nicely but wake up in the morning with a flat bed and a sore back. We are still grateful for the gift though. Now we have a good bed and two singles for lazing around on outside the tent. Sez rocked up at some time this morning with a sign saying Utopia and a block of organic Swiss Chilli flavoured chocolate he was going to use to woo a driver into taking him to the next party. He had crossed out the word Chilli on ...

Agueda, Beiras, Portugal amidlifecrisis... eu para confiar na minha avaliação? Quem sou eu para confiar em mim? Hoje estou assim e amanhã estou ao contrário. O homem não é instável. Hoje temos a Graça e amanhã estamos sozinhos.

Carregal do Sal, Portugal tiagosgd... are grown and made into Port. We followed the Douro river upstream to Regua where we transferred to another train, this one a narrow gauge line that followed the Corgo river upstream. The tracks were carved into the steep mountains and everywhere we looked, vinyards and old houses carved into the hills surrounded us. The short 45 minute ride was a real treat. We celebrated ...
Villa Real, Portugal hippleramazingly beautiful area with a river running thru green hills, dotted with small portugese white washed villages and vineyards which are dug into the siderd of teh hills. the rain didn't stop us from doing a couple of winery tours and climbing up 600 odd steps to see a beautiful church.... although we did find ourselves inside bars and bakeries samling portugals finest ports and pastries .... and the chinese restaurant of course (habits die hard).
Lamego, Portugal salkelely... we stayed in a cozy Quinta named Levada. We had a lot of wines in this period, two were special, Vertentes 2001 and Tres Bagos Sauv. Blanc 2005. Also good food there, as the other places that we have been in Portugal. I had a very good octopus in restaurant named Barriguinha Cheia, translated to English as Fully Small Belly!!! Another interesting thing was visiting the wine makers. The last ...
Douro, Portugal alhadeff... s the man for the job! I have total confidence you'll get us home safely. Go Clem!" I said this because I had no confidence he would get us home safely. Rural Portuguese roads swing through small towns and are dark and perilous for even sober drivers. But, a positive word always helps. We made it to Adam's. Adam owns a very cold, studio-style, old mortar Portuguese house. It sits on a ring of giant, lush hills. The valley below gets stuffed with fog ...
