... north as far as the eye can see. We walked for another 40 minutes or so along a ridge to Planell (2236m) for 360 degree views of the mountains along with the Sant Maurici lake. Words do little to capture how stunning the view was. We stopped for lunch and John spotted a chamois below us.
We passed the shepherd and his sheep again today.
The walk back down to the campsite took no time at all and we enjoyed an hour of sitting in the sun.
... I have snowboarded, so I was not sure how I was going to handle it. First hill, great....HOWEVER I probably fell over 200 times (without joking) in my first 3 hours.I felt like the more I kept going the worse I got, so I ended feeling like I was going to die (SO sore). Got up reasonably early to visit Carcassonne, a medieval town that is a Unesco World Heritage site. Boasting a huge fortified castle with ramparts, and a separate outer wall for protection surrounding the old town. Once on the border of France and Spain the chateau et Remparts, had many uses over the year. The audio guide was crammed with interesting facts, going into lots of detail dating back to the 12th century. At the end or the tour we walked around the top of the inside ...
... but OK until this morning, when the sun came out and the ski fields called. www.valnord.com is better than any of our photos. Immense place, and great skiing. Enough said. Tonight (29th) back for another go at the buffet, and then head back to the UK tomorrow, via overnight train.
