... 1945, it was hit by an atomic bomb sent by the U.S. which helped to end World War II. It was the second time in which the atomic bomb had been used against people. The first was Hiroshima. We went to the museum, which is nicely set up at ground zero. It was quite an experience to actually be in the spot where the bomb was most destructive. Yanagawa City/ Dazaifu

... on the way back to stop in a place called Dazaifu. It is famous for a beautiful shrine as well as a popular sweet - a type of baked mochi filled with red bean paste. We stopped for some ice coffee and green tea and some mochi, then browsed through a few local souvenir shops. We rode the train back to Fukuoka, arriving back after 6 pm. ... of Kumamoto, it was extremely interesting and the workmanship is a credit to all involved. It is also the largest wooden structure of its kind in Japan.

On the way out we looked at the Shachi-no-mon Gate which still has bullet holes visible from the 1838 Battle of Saga. There is also part of the 70 metre wide moat, which once encircled the castle, still visible, as well as some old steps and castle walls.

Well worth a visit.

... and I wouldn't swear we get that right!

Anyway, I did pick up that our bus would not go directly to Saga and it would mean a transfer. We were hoping the transfer would take place at a bus terminal. Alas, that was not to be.
