      Total Km driven: 26,642km

Just adding a quick note to place route on map

After leaving Fort Myers we drove north taking the scenic route over the 4 mile Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay. The original bridge built in 1954 was hit by a freighter during a storm in 1980 & the roadway collapsed killing 35 people!

We spent another night and paddled an uninspiring lake in a Floridian state park, then set off this morning heading east looking for something cool to do. The tourist brochures are full of lovely looking springs but due to flooding last week and more storms due they are all closed to swimming and real murky. We found a few hideous tourist beach towns, one of which was the film site of ...

... night as we knew we had to get up early so we are both really tired and hot when we get to our planned destination at Manatee Springs State Park 3.5 hours away!
Sadly they are full for the weekend but we decide to stay for a few hours and swim in the springs. It is a beautiful spot with crystal clear cool spring water so we snorkel for a while and come out totally refreshed. We head north west again and end up stopping at Rocky's ...
