... tourists can see as they stroll around town alone or in the company of a guide who will talk about the story of these charming exhibits, with the musical accompaniment of bagpipes from Val Pesarina. Guided tours (departure by ferry from Grado) have also been organised of the lagoon nativity scenes on the Island of Barbana, the site of a Marian shrine much loved by the people of Grado, who go on pilgrimage to the shrine every ...
Grado, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy bluwom... exploration today. Figured that since most of Italy is churches, we should go see the synagogue here as its one of the biggest in Europe. Not that either of us are religous, but sometimes we just get the urge to pray (NOT!, this is not some bible belt after school special). Jason is ready now, so we're off for the day, ttyl......
They will lead you to a farm or winery where you will taste (and buy if you wish!) self-produced wine and food.

Last tip: if you ever heard someone say that Trieste is too quiet, I dare you to visit it during the Barcolana, the world-famous sailing race open to everyone, professionals and amateurs, which attracts thousands of tourists every year. It will be an experience you will never forget.

See you in Trieste!
Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy kaprettaMy third day I caught a bus to the neighbouring valley of Bohinj, with Bohinj lake in the centre, this lake is absolutley stunning, it's less touristy than Bled, it's larger (it's immense!) and it's set in such a beautiful setting (amongest the Julian Alps!). To walk around the lake, (10km) it took about 4-5hours in some parts following the road, in other parts on a beaten ...

It is virtually dead as the tourist season is ending. That night, there is a massive thunderstorm. Rain is pouring, thunder bellows … We hear a window open and slam shut with the very strong wind. We later find out that these types of storms are common.
Bovec, Slovenia will.travellerJuliana here. I am putting up this blog secretly to tell you what's been going on with Paul. First let me tell you that we went to Slovenia. It wasn't for long, but it happened. In fact, 60 years ago it was still part of Italy. Regardless, we popped by Nova Gorica, Slovenia. It is on the border, connected to Gorizia, Italy. Like the rest of the free world, the majority speaks Italian. Most of what we saw ...
Nova Gorica, Slovenia paul-julesThis is a great small town, where they actually choose to not speak english. We went from the restaurant to bar to wedding to bar to restaurant to bar (the Black Stuff) etc. Eat, Drink, Sleep repeat for a few days. It was a beautiful wedding and a great town.
Udine, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy slipperycoconutThe train from Bled arrived in Nova Gorica at 9pm. Unfortunately this is a rather small border town, certainly with no tourist information, nor anything open from what I could see at that time of night. All I had was my faint memory of the map I had looked at in someone's travel guide in Bled, and the address of the hostel I was trying to find. I started off going right, but 10 minutes later, when I was back at the station, decided that probably wasn't the way. Left was ...
Nova Gorica, Slovenia sarahxPassing by the impressive Solkan bridge (with the longest stone arch in the world!), my next stop was Nova Gorica. Abandoning my bag with the helpful people at the tourist info centre, I had 3 hours to explore town before my train. Unfortunately, that was really about 2 hours more than I needed to see the place. There really didn't ...
