      ... terraces wasn't too slippery but it certainly gave my soft kiwi feed a good work out on the way down. The amount of water flowing over the terraces is strictly controlled by the Turks - too much water changes the colour, so there is a fair amount of human intervention in keeping these things pristine.       ... non stop on his two mobile phones, in between drinking tea, eating, smoking and talking to people on the bus. At one stage he had no hands on the wheel! He came close to having a punch-up with another man at a cafe stop and seemed even more rattled and erratic after that. It didn't help that we had front row seats and could see it all. We both fell sleep in the end which was probably just as well!

      ... one of the highlights of the tour - the best preserved Roman theatre in the world. It is bloody incredible. It dates from161 AD. Ataturk was instrumental in restoring it to its present state and it is now regularly used to stage Operas. It can seat 20,000 people - the acoustics are perfect and the opera festival is currently in full swing.
