... up the old lava flow from a previous explosion, it was really bumpy and parts of it were through a little stream. It was hard work as you couldn't take your eyes off the dirt track. Then we went through part forest until we got to 1800 foot which was the highest we could go! The view of the volcano was beautiful, the sky clear blue with a few clouds round the top. The volcano emits a constant stream of smoke as its a live volcano. We stayed here for a bit and ...

... here, it is not surprising that few US citizens decide to make the journey.
So…back to whale sharks, we spent our 3 hours boating back and forth about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the shore, with our sharp-eyed lookout standing on a crosstie of the ship, about 10 feet above the deck, looking for any signs of a whale shark. (they typically spot them by seeing their silhouettes, but this is more challenging in the current weather ...

Before we hit the main festivities of Christmas we took a short trip down to Donsol from Legaspi. Donsol is a small town on the coast just over one hour away from Legaspi.
After hitting the bus station and working out there was no public bus heading our way we met a taxi driver who was going in that direction and so we got a great rate to hitch a ride. Add in one Lithuanian tourist called MK to help pay the fare and we were off to the seaside. John, our friendly taxi driver ...
