Historical Traveler Reviews Penzion Mayer Bled
I stayed at Penzion Mayer for two nights, but could have easily stayed longer. It is in a gogeous location - very peaceful. Breakfast outside each morning was an absolute delight. (it was lovely weather, but there was the option of eating in the dining room if preferred). The room was very spacious and airy, with a small balcony. The bathroom was quite large. Everything was very clean. Oh, and added bonus - BBC world was a informative change from the normal cable tv available at hotels.
Better than Home Away from Home!
Charming place to stay! Wonderful food and pleasant, personal but not obtrusive service - makes one feel your arrival has been anticipated. Our departure was very early in the AM but we were treated to personal sacks of delicious thick sandwiches, fruits and beverage to acomodate us on our journey - a very thoughful touch!
We have just returned from a two night stay at Pension Meyer, the Manager was very helpful and went out of his way to recommend what we should do. The room was huge compared to stardard hotels in Slovenia and there was a nice balcany and it was spoteless clean. Highly recommended. The restaraunt in the Hotel is excellent as well.
Wonderful hotel, warm, clean, welcoming. Manager very helpful, and his wife also very friendly- have booked again
Best place ever!!
This place was the most beautiful and best places I have ever stayed at! The manager was brilliant - we wanted to go to Vintgar Gorge and order a taxi - he offered to drive us himself as he was going that way. Everyone was friendly, the breakfast was supurb. Our room was large with a balcony and a view over the lake. The price was also excellant. I would recommend that anybody stay here - you won't be dissapointed.
The place to stay in Bled
We have just spent the Christmas long weekend here and had a wonderful stay. The place has so much character, is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. AND the restaurant is just great....we had an amazing Christmas eve dinner here! I'd definitely stay here again.
Stayed with husband and toddler - no probs in getting a travel cot put in room which was big enough to accommodate it. Clean rooms, good location (10 mins walk to lake and town), great restaurant - big advantage was we could put the child alarm on and go down for a lovely dinner. Breakfast was good too. All in all - a fraction of the price of equivalent hotels.
stayed in the pezion mayer may 2005 with my husband absoloutly delighted with the hotel rooms were spacious very clean and with lovely furniture. my husband was ill on arrival and the hotels owner helped me to obtain medical help for him which we both greatly appreciated.
all the staff were very helpful and attentive. we booked half boardthe breakfasts are delicious and with thomsons that means you only have a limited choice of your main course at the evening meal but if theres nothing that appeals to you they are happy to give you something you like. the restaurant which has an excellant reputation locally is open to the public and can get very busy so you may have to wait for a table at busy times but thats not a problem because you are in such beautiful surroundings. this was our first time in slovenia but we enjoyed it so much we came home and booked to go again in 2006 its such a lovely country and lake bled is so beautiful all in all one of the best weeks we have had anywhere cant rate it highly enough.
Lovely place to stay.Clean, immaculately furnished room.Short walk from the lake.Good breakfast.

... cliff right down to the lake. Onto the next day and we ventured down south near the Italian border to check out the UNESCO listed Skocjan caves. The drive took about an hour and a half on the 130km-h freeway and took us from the north of the country to the south. If you tack on another 30 mins it would roughly be the duration to travel the entire length of the country. The cave tour began with a 10 minute walk through the ...
... thinking it cant be too far...how wrong we were. We walked for what seem an eternity and were convinced we were lost. We bumped into a couple of guys from America who were in a similar situation.
We finally made it to the foot of the waterfall only to be told it was another 20minutes to the viewpoint, as someone who doesn't really like walking I wasn't best pleased at this point.
It was all worth it in the end though as we reached the viewpoint and saw ...

He showed us some amazing pictures of this year's snow and ice. After the gorge we drove the short distance into Bled for the rest of the afternoon and everyone chose to do different things. Mike and Lee were the only ones to do the 5.5km walk right round the lake, some walked up to the castle, but Ron, Jan and I ...
Day 1 We arrived in the afternoon in Slovenia and took the bus from the airport into town. We were left at the central bus station to find our own way to the hostel. Luckily for us, as we would soon find out, Ljubljana is an easily walkable and navigable city. In fact, it feels more like a sleepy small town than a proper city. It was gray and cool with a slight drizzle, but we quickly made our way to the Tresor Hostel. This was our first hostel stop, but if anything it ...
Kate & I are the spontaneous types. Sure we thrive off organization and usually have our heads on straight, but when it comes to planning adventures throughout Europe we thought spontaneity and resources would more or less get us to the destination. The alarming amount of websites for travel methods, lack of wifi, and sometimes outrageous last minute price-jackings were a rude wake up call! Turns out we needed the expertise of my dear friend back ...
