... our first swallows of the year. We followed a path alongside the lake which then turned inland into woodland. There were swampy bits in the woodland and we saw great crested newts and some small toads. Exhausted this evening after a full day of walking, but feeling lucky with the weather. We had a couple of hail showers this morning, but otherwise it's been dry, and often warm and sunny. Off to Suwalki on an early bus in the morning, and then planning to cross into Lithuania on ...

... The sides were really steep so they want further hoping to find an easier way down. Near the end of the wall they managed to go down a path worn by other people.
When they got down to the bottom the wall rose up above them out of the wood. It was a colossal structure. They made their way to the entrance and were not prepared for what they saw. A chamber open to the sky and one end extended up and up. They both felt over-awed in different ways. ...
