Soporific Sopot

... S. Embassy might be close enough to sign documents.

So out into the sun and down to the pier. The pier here is quite famous. It is 500 meters long and has had a checkered history. It survived two World Wars and also survived misguided intentions to just pull it all down. Now it is being revived again with a marina scheduled to open next to it in a couple of years. For now, locals and tourists ...

Deliciously Decadent Drink

... came very thick, almost as thick as chocolate pudding. I tasted hers and it was like chocolate pudding! As the drink cooled, it got thicker and thicker. They bring a spoon along with it so that you can finish it to the bottom of the glass. Yum!

Yesterday we are walking up the square in Sopot, Poland and I notice people sitting in a café with cups of what looks like ...

Internationally Invisible

... for pushiness. Forty minutes in the showroom without a single salesman approaching us. As there are many car dealerships, we are ready to leave when someone finally sees us and comes over to see if we want to buy a car. We have already been sitting in cars and kicking tires just to see if they notice us. He says, just saw you walk in the door. A line definitely or ...

Gdansk Revisited

... The top floor had some paintings that were enjoyable. The next floors had furniture from the period including some wonderful old ceramic tile stoves from floor to ceiling. We even got into the kitchen. Usually you don’t get to see the kitchen.

Back on track to go get baked potatoes. I had a Mexican and hubby had a cheese. They were quite tasty. Not exactly Mexican like ...

Still Chilling Out in Gdansk

... better than my nonexistent Polish. I had my ticket in hand but made the fatal mistake of asking where the 106 bus stop was for Westerplatte.

This old man told me, "von hundret and six to Westerplatte"
I said, "yes. where?"
He said, "von hundret and six to westerplatte" and just waived his hand at nothing in particular.
To which I responded of course, "where?" and to which he replied, "you not listen. Bus von hundret and six."

Warsaw to Gdansk

... thoroughfare). This area of Gdansk is really nice, the streets are lined with beautiful buildings most of which were rebuilt in the 1950's (in 17th Century style) after being destroyed by the Soviet Army. Gdansk is now a major shipping port, due to its location on the Baltic Sea, and also a major tourist destination. After a short while the showers cleared while we enjoyed a few hours exploring this lovely town. We had dinner ...

Gdansk, Poland

... and just saw them from the bus or stopped just long enough to get off, snap a shot and get back on. We sat in the front of the bus and the window kept leaking on me so I was soaked before we even started. We stopped at the Oliwa Cathedral, built in the 13th century and on the grounds of an old monastery. It has a huge organ and two smaller ones, consisting of 7,876 tin and wood pipes which can imitate the sounds of different musical ...

Glory of Gdansk

... we ditched him as soon as we got off the train! Gdansk, again is another very beautiful city - and considering there was very little left of it after the Second World War, they have done an immense job restoring it to its former glory! Definitely a great deal of time & effort was spent rebuilding this city, and this is noticed in the detailing of the architecture & the variances of colours throughout the cobbled streets adding to the beauty. We ...

Basking and skinny dipping in the Baltic Sea

... while Marta, was out playing her Guitar Last night, Marta and I rode back up to Gydina, where we stayed with Ola and the kids. It was a great last evening with all these new friends. Marta, made a huge salad to go along with Ola's soup. We all sat around listening to Marta play and sing while drinking a couple of beers. She sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and while listening to her I could feel that she ...

Onward to Gdansk, Poland

At 3:50pm we will be catching a train from Warsaw to Gdansk. Gdansk is a port city on the Baltic Sea! I think we'll be spending 2 nights there and then Meghan is going on to Germany and I don't know what I'm doing yet. I'm still debating between Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. Meghan is going to be meeting her mom in Austria in a couple of days to do some hiking so I'll be on my own for a while. If you have an opinion about what country I should hit next and why, leave a message!
