... way to see them all. My CS host and a friend spent the next morning to do exactly that, had lunch (a big plate of mixed grilled meat), walked some more, stopped by a roadside café for coffee and ice-cream, and brought home a bottle of Romanian Pinot Noir. I finished a few entries for the travel blog, ate dinner (leftover of our lunch), and went out to a sport bar to watch the final of Confederate Cup – the ...

They talked loudly, ate seeds, and spread out more and more. i found myself frustrated by the man next to me who, without any sort of seat divider, sprawled out in typical guy fashion with his legs taking up about a foot more than they ...
Arad, Transylvania, Romania cutiebanana... at about 5pm and after finding the Pensione (not pre-booked) we drove into the town. Timisoara has some lovely buildings, parks and two main squares. Our favourite building was the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral with its ornate roof and spires. We found a nice outdoor restaurant in the main square, which had old treadle sewing machines as tables, and had a lovely Romanian pork ragout (goulash) with polenta for dinner.

Timisoara, Transylvania, Romania papamanacoWe spent a typical European day in the university border town of Timisoara. The town square is absolutely beautiful - one of the nicest we have seen. The opera house is showing My Fair Lady in a few days, and I am so sad we won´t be able to see it! The 1989 revolution started here, and you can still feel a bit of the revolutionary spirit walking through the town. After a yummy lunch in the square, we took a self-guided walking tour to see the famous buildings ...

So if I get run into the ditch by a large red dump truck, I guess I sorta chose that too. And I am genuinely glad we chose to come here. Romanians are WONDERFUL people: open, engaing, warm, waving, smiling, helpful, curious, accommodating. But many Romania people have few choices....Romania ...
Timisoara, Transylvania, Romania steffeffThe train from Brasov to Timisora passes through Sibiu, which is notable since otherwise Sibiu is a bit awkward to reach, so a good tourist route. Of course I didn't know anything about Sibiu, so didn’t want to cancel my ticket just to explore, but YOU might want to. Timisoara is one of the country’s largest cities, and borders the Slavic countries also, so shows some of that influence, with exotic Turkish-looking churches. Try as I may ...
