... Fortunately the old city was spared WWII bombing by the Allies (not so for the rest of the area). Our trip from Bled was interesting. Turns out there was railroad track maintenance being done, so the train wasn't operating from Bled. (Would have been helpful if we had been able to read Slovenian notice posted on a board at the station, which was closed). So we hung about and at the time the train would have left, an employee arrived and informed the group of people ...

... As I finished my very fluffy but enjoyable Bridget Jones book back in Vienna I was in the market for as new book. As luck would have it I found a store that had a small english section and much to Ryan's annoyance spent an excessive amount of time picking my next fluffy book. Then onto Hitler's holiday house, Eagle Nest, high in the mountains. It was absolutely wonderful and the view was incredible. Hitler didn't actually like the place much so there wasn't heaps of history but the 360 views were amazing and I did a little exploring in the rocks. Not too cold as I was still in shorts, but very pleasant.

Onto Munich where the hotel is 4 star, a bit ...

... in a van the size of Ellie, so we packed the brolly we had bought in Fussen and caught the bus outside the campsite that takes you to the heart of the city.

The first thing that struck me as we walked through the old part of town was the height of the buildings....they were six or seven storeys high and they ran continuously like a very large wall that you couldn't walk round or see over.....every now and then, a small archway ...

... it was lovely. But strangely the Austrians don’t really seem to give a fig about the Sound of Music, they are much more interested in promoting Mozart (who apparently hated Salzburg and was always bagging it out – he was also only 150cm tall in real life – who knew all that talent came out of a pipsqueak!
