... a beautiful old town on the lake. It was tricky to find somewhere to park but we decided to try the chairlift car park in Obertraun. We walked back to Hallstatt, about 40mins, and looked through town. We stopped at the Skull house where they keep old skulls that have been removed from their graves. It was strange but interesting! By time we got back to the van we unpacked our packs, cooked up some dinner and went to ...

... It is truly a beautiful place. Plenty of people walking around in traditional Austrian clothing. There is a band playing at the end of the pedestrian mall. The sun is shining and its lovely and warm. I could get used to this little piece of paradise. That is until winter comes.

Sunday is a travel day. 3 trains and 1 bus to get to the next destination which is Bled, Slovenia. I hope i have timed all the connections properly, or i will be in trouble.

We spent the morning at the salt mine. The tour starts with putting coveralls on. We then went on a mini train. If you were taller than 6 feet you have to be careful because there is not much headroom. The tunnels are very narrow. You start the tour by sliding down a 50 foot wooden slide to the mine. They explain how they mine the salt. There use to be a salt water ocean 14 million years ago that evaporated ...

... city wall with a pleasant walk through the tunnel into the birth place of Mozart! The rooms were nicely appointed and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

    A little about Salzburg.
It is the fourth largest city in Austria. The old town is again recognised for its baroque architecture so a lot of ornate buildings and detailed design work is seen everywhere. It has a rather small population of 140,000 but this doubles in the peak tourist season. The ...

The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of Music

Today we ventured to the beautiful town of Salzburg, home of the film The Sound of Music and to the actual Von Trapp Family. On the way there we got to watch the movie on the bus and when we got to Salzburg we did a small tour of the old city. We went and looked at the Mirable Gardens (which you can see in the Do Re Mi song in TSOM) and Mozart's house as well. We were supposed to go look at a castle but some of us got separated and decided to have ...
