... island. Naxos, we noticed, has a completely different vibe from that of Mykonos. While Mykonos was bustling and crowded, Naxos seemed quite a bit sleepier and more relaxed. Whereas Mykonos was expensive and glitzy, Naxos was a bit more down to earth and affordable. Yet, Naxos retains all the charm a traveller would expect of a Greek island.

... and set a direct course for Finikas. This is a small fishing village on the southeastern side of Siros which in addition to a small harbor for fishing and pleasure boats also has a fair seized naval base/harbor which housed one rather dilapidated frigate (not a great confidence builder for the Greek navy)! The outside quay of the fishing harbor provided very good anchorage as long as one is careful to " keep of the quay" to prevent damage ...

... and apparently had the same idea. During our passage we kept looking behind us to make sure that BS was OK. Bas and Margreet had decided to pull out there genoa and were motor sailing! They had called ahead to the little yacht harbor in the town of Naousis and got the last available mooring spot.

Once we safely anchored in the protected bay it was difficult to belief how rough the weather had been ...

... including my return to Pisa Livadi after (roughly, Dave can confirm) 30 years. Despite derogatory comments in the Rough Guide it still looked pretty good, we liked it anyway! They didn’t remember me though, they served me.

Deb: I thought Paros looked the least inviting of our islands, but (luckily, given the ferry cancellations!) it has proved to be lovely. The hotel is great – brilliant views from the balcony and the buses are relatively ...
