Beautiful sunny HOT day. Walked along the village street after a huge brekkie, and then took small motor boat out on the lake, looking at the campers from the outside today! Looked inside the beautifully decorated village church. My good friend Anni and her husband Michael arrived from Munich. Anni and I had been pen-friends since we were about 12, and Anni and I had visited many times in Germany and UK, although Anni has never made ...

Drove the few kilometres to Oberammergau. I had been there in 2010 with my sister and brother in law to see the Passion Play, performed all summer of each decade since 17th century in thanks for being spared the plague. Packing up yesterday paid dividends this morning as we were quick to check out and get on the road. We ate in the town last night and had one final sauna / swim before bed & an early start today. The drive today is one of the nicest we've had. It's a long way, 4 hours, but mostly through towns and resorts so lots to look at - stunning scenery; more wooden houses bursting with flowers, over flowing as if in competition (maybe they are?) and big mountains, really ...

Still being tired from the night before it was really easy to sleep for the whole bus trip. We left the hostel in Munich and headed back to Austria. After a few hours driving up into some mountainous country we came across a river flowing quite fast. This is where some of the group did white water rafting. I've already done it a couple of time and in places where you don't need a 7mm wetty, so I passed. Arrived at the Hopfgarten Contiki ...

... in Rottach-Egern we returned to our retreat and rested for the afternoon and evening.

The next day we walked to the rental car agency, which was really a mechanics shop that happened to rent vehicles. The proprietor spoke a little English and we were on our way in short order. The vehicle was a Nissan diesel that literally sipped fuel. Very comfortable with lots of power and the stick shift came in handy on the Alpine roads.
