Seven weeks after the death of King Ludwig II in 1886, Neuschwanstein was opened to the public. The shy king had built the castle in order to withdraw from public life – now vast numbers of people came to view his private refuge.

The construction of the breathtaking Neuschwanstein Castle began in the summer of 1868, when up to eight meters of stone were outcropped to make way for the foundation of the castle. In June the next year, the new access roads ...

... details to Leanne and Sarah. It was great to hear the stories about the castle and we all really enjoyed it. At the end Sarah said this was the kind of castle she could see herself in. ... in the painted roof had us in awe. Initially it was thought we may be able to tour the distillery and brewery but we couldn't decipher the signage well enough to work out where that might be. On the road once more, but this time with our hotel in Innsbruck, Austria as our destination. The drive was nice, more rolling fiends of green and alps, cows, little villages, etc you all get the picture and the understanding of just how much we love the alps. Along the way, ...

... bus, admire the Schloss from outside, and come back down on the bus, saving yourself 12 euros for a needless and pathetic guided tour that lasts but half an hour and tells you little. And remember you have to wait 3.5 hours for this tour..if you turn up early. As we left, at 2pm, people were queuing for tickets for tours that started at 7.05pm. The castle is stunning, from the outside, and the views it affords are indeed ...
