... market, but we only had one night there, barely enough time to enjoy the atmosphere. Compared to other markets and such, we found shopping was better in Innsbruck compared to Munich. Swarovski crystal originated here and so that was also a big shopping draw. Their most recent orb for Christmas is exquisite!
While in Munich, I took a side trip without Jon to Salzburg, Austria. I've always wanted to visit Salzburg ever since I saw the "Sound of Music". Our ...

We had planned to see Christmasmarkets in Salzberg, Vienna and Nuremburg but did not really expect it in Innsbruck. It was a pleasant surprise as the market had started on the weekend.

The one in the Aldstadt is small but interesting. There is another one by the river called the Crystal Market as there is huge Swarovski Christmas tree made of crystals that is at the middle of that market. A third market will start this weekend on the main ...

      Tunnels, tunnels and more tunnels

We drove from Lindau to Innsbruck. It is about a 2 hour drive without stops on mostly 4 lane road and good highways. We already had out Austrian Road sticker. We got that when we went to Lichtenstein.

Driving through the Alps is not like driving through the mountains in western Canada. The Germans and Austrians don't believe in going around a mountain if you can go through it. We figure 1/4 of our trip was in tunnels!

... br> At one point while heading up this fantastic road I stopped to photo a old
castle which stood on a high rock at the edge of the road. While here I realised
there was not much traffic at all coming down this road and so began to wonder
if it was even open over the pass.
Back on my bike and upwards we go. No cars at all and I really am getting
worried. All the parking areas along the way have large "Closed" signs over them
      and road working ...

... building process for 14 years. The outside was completely finished, however only about 80% of the inside was completed. When the King died, the construction stopped, plus this was a very expensive castle to start with.
We finally got to the castle, and we had a chance to walk around the town before heading up to the castle. We took the bus up to the castle, even though we had the option for a horse and carriage ride or to walk. We went as far as the bus would go, and ...
