Calle de Hermani, San Sebastián - Donostia, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands, 34-943-42-63-45
A few pinxtos and the like with Naroa and then she left us to our own devices. Our hostel was right in the old town and surrounded by many, many bars. Most of these serve pinxtos and have a bar with loads of rubbish at your feet. It was ruddy good. Unfortunately Spurs got knocked out of the UEFA cup. Getafe got through which made the some Spaniards happy. Naroa told us that San Seb has experienced a lot of storms, just the day before and some of the old town had been flooded. We saw newscrews...
San Sebastián - Donostia, Spain mothmanIn order to get to Spain, we had to go back to Paris and then take a high speed TGV to the boarder. We had a 4 hour lay over in Paris so we decided to make the most of it. We stored our bags in the pricey train station lockers and went to the top of the arch de triumph. Even though it was a cloudy rainy day, the view was amazing. I spent a good hour and a half up there taking pictures and staring out onto the city. What was truly fascinating was the chaos that was happening below. The arch is...

Tom and Sue took the day to zip to Bilbao (1:45 south of Biarritz) to see the famous Guggenhiem Museum. Wow, what a building!! The exhibits pale in comparison, but still we enjoyed a solid 4 hours at the museum. Afterwards, we drove back to San Sebastian where Sue introduced me to Alona Berri, the ...

Biarritz, Aquitaine, France kramertown... we tried to get a lesson from our hostel but they said the instructor wasn´t available. I think he was hungover because I saw him moping around the hostel. We rented boards and head out to Playa Zuricola, tons of surfers were out and the waves look meanacing. Thank god the dude renting the boards told us where the ...
San Sebastián - Donostia, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands sofenjon... somewhat embarrassing to admit, but the only reason I’ve come to visit San Sebastian the past two years, is to hit up the tapas bars. It’s funny how you go somewhere for trivial reasons, but end up finding something deeply meaningful. Times like this make me wish I was actually a writer and not just a silly blogger, because this blog entry has proven extremely difficult to write, which is not due to any lack of inspiration. As much as I try, I ...
San Sebastián - Donostia, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands pwong... and give an approving nod. 30 minutes later it comes back seared on the outside, bloody on the inside, and covered with some flaked sea salt. We ate it all...simple and delicious. In town, we've also got to try baby eels aka "gulas" (take it or leave it), baby squid sauteed in its own ink (delicious at first, but then overwhelmingly rich), prawns the size of a baby's foot, and probably some other things that are exotic that we didn't even ...
San Sebastián - Donostia, Spain thepotvins... I cleaned up then found the others and we hung out in town for a bit swapping tomato war stories. The train ride back was filled with people still covered in tomato goop and half-dressed. I have to wonder if the train people cleaned those seats afterwards. I think everyone just wanted to get back to where they were staying and have a real shower and change of clothes. My hotel was close to Daniel and Nicola's, so met up with them later ...
