... began a comedy of errors as we tried to juggle giving the cleaning lady the chance to clean our rooms, while we hung around in our ridiculous hotel gowns. To make a point about the mickey mouse nature of their service at this 5 star hotel, we sat on the steps between levels one and 2 of the hotel, in full view of people in the foyer. No one seemed to notice though. Once our room was cleaned we returned to it ...

After a leisurely breakfast at the Antiq Palace we went out walking again, this time in a different direction. We ended up back down near the water, where we had lunch at a Japanese tapas cafe. Sadly constrained by the weather. After a beltingly hot few days in Ljubljana we decamped North courtesy of M's first left hand drive experience to Bled up near the Austrian border. A long and fraught day finishing with a little wailing and gnashing of teeth as we searched for our new home - at least for the next few days. Sadly rain interrupted ...

We noticed the difference when we passed the border( well there is only a whole lot old buildings deteriorating there) into Austria. Cleaner , better roads , more agriculture .prettier houses with the window boxes full of flowers Wild Bean cafes at roadside BP stops so felt right at home - except we had to pay 50 cents for the loos. ...

... want to do and our budget.

We book into a lovely quiet apartment overlooking meadows of wildflowers in the town of Ribcev Laz for 3 nights. Our first day is spent on a walk of 4 hour circumnavigating the lake which includes a enchanting forest walk. Again we think we are fit and fabulous until we meet a group of antique walkers that are racing along the path. They put us to shame as they race along chattering in allsorts ...
